Project: 2002 WRX Wagon -- The Gravel Express
flintster55 Wrote:Just curious, why do you think the cheap gas caused a cat efficiency code? Do you still have all the stock cats or have you started down that slippery slope yet?

Everything is stock, and here's why I think it was gas:

Fill up with shit 7-11 gas, code appears.

Empty 7-11 tank, put in shell tank, code disappears. Nothing else has changed, so Occams razor says it was the gas...

I would venture to guesss bad gas causing a slight misfire condition resulting in the catalytic converter slightly overheating because of unburned gas being burned in the cat. This will make your secondary 02 sensor cycle on and off more than usual (and the computer reading that as abnormal and throwing a code).

So, the Gravel Express was having a tick of trouble turning over on cold mornings. Not knowing when the battery was purchased I decided to get a new one, and Dave D. was selling Optima batteries for 99 dollars for a charity. I don't even remember what charity it was, but as far as I am concerned it was the "Rex Needs a Bitchin New Battery Charity". So that's installed, no more cranky cranking.

I also finally shelled out the money to pick up my RS Six Spokes. They look like this:
Only in a horrible "textured bronze" that only Aquacow would think was a good idea. When the Spring Thaw arrives I'll be setting out to strip, prime, paint. What do you guys think for color? I was thinking a dark dark bronze or maybe gunmetal or something. Dunno.

Anyway, I love the way the six spokes look, and they're 7 inches wide as opposed to the 6.5" that the WRX wheels are. Since I won't be going any larger on the front brake rotor diameter in the foreseeable future, I saw no reason to go for a larger diameter wheel, and I'm pretty sure I can easily stuff 225's on 7" wide wheels...any wider than 225's and I'd probably rub on stuff with my non-flared wagon fenders.

Also, my CEL seems to have left me alone for the past two tanks of gas...and it's been a lot colder than it was when I first got the CEL, so I'm really thinking it was the 7-11 gas. Disappointing, but what are you gonna do? :dunno:

I also bought a new WRX wheel from John Chapin to replace my rashed up one. Next year, these will be my snow set, because fuck you haters. :bootyshake:

Coming up soon (maybe in late February), Rex Installs His H6 Rears (Finally!)

I lol'd, your writing style is teh funnays.

Dad just had to put a new battery in his car a few days ago -- and Nate's truck is starting to wimp out too. This cold weather is brutal!

Wheels look nice. I have some leftover paint, you can make them Navin Blue fo' free.

In all seriousness, gunmetal would look good. I used the Duplicolor "dark gray" or whatever it's called for my Koseis. And you can't forget the JDM-tyte red Muteki lugnuts. They'd probably match the color of your whip and earn you mad street cred.

Nice wheels! Definitely gunmetal or gold imo.

Glad the CEL has stayed away! I would definitely recommend some seafoam in the tank before the next fill up and buck up the $.10 / gallon for the good stuff in the future. Especially if you ever put a tune on that thing you have to get real conscious about where you fill up...especially in the wintertime.

I was there for that. I advised against it.

The bronze duplicolor wheel paint looks bitchin with red. I painted a set of wheels and my rollbar with it.
hard to find now though but give your local advance zone a look.

With kids wrecking those cars so much nowadays I'd think a junkyard would be a good place to start

Found an SRP bugeye fender for 150 bucks.

Gotta drive to Satan's Asshole PA to get it, but at least I won't have to paint.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
