We uh, obtained a copy for showing at a MMovie night last semester. One of the Davids has it I think. It could likely be passed along at Turducken.

if you have the means and venues: R/C cars.

in the winter, there are indoor tracks out there and lots of classes from stock to mod in both on and off road (indoor off-road tracks are rare though). when its warm, off road venues open and some on-road classes go to outdoor lots which is convenient.

if you don't want to race, they're fun to tool around with and harass the neighbor's cats. some of the precision rock-crawlers would be fun indoors.

upsides: competition is usually wide ranging and the speed is absolutely there. nearly any tweak made to the vehicle setup translates to changes that reflect in full-scale, so it's fun and educational to experiment. it takes keen depth perception, fast/accurate judgement and concentration to run door to door at 30mph in 1/10 scale. setting up the cars takes experimentation which is a challenge and with a nice paint job they look awesome.

downfall: expense, nerdiness, gas-powered cars are messy, need a venue and others to race against, at the end of the day you're a bunch of adults playing with toy cars instead of real cars.

Have you read Speed Secrets 3? I'm curious about compare/contrast.

I read all of them up through 5. 4 and 5 are regurgitations of 1-3 with some extra fluff thrown in.
Didnt read 6 but it looks like more of the same cashing in of a well known series.

Holy crap Speed Secrets 1-3 is freaking amazing. Just read em and color me impressed but those were the best "driver" books ive read so far. (although he is kind of a cocky douchebag Tongue).

Im going to keep them handy in my track bag to pick up sections and read again and again. I feel like they are not necessarily teaching you to be fast, but teaching "the driver" a good mental state and how to focus your learning and make your learning faster. (that makes you fast, but its more of a focus on you rather than the right way to approach a corner)

I picked up Colin Chapman: Inside the Innovator and it's been a pretty entertaining and enlightening read. It's really cool reading about how some innovations or design paradigms in cars and motorsport came to be. Really nice photos too.
