Scales to Use
#1
Does anybody have access to weight scales that they can use? Tech at NASA is too busy now usually and getting my car prepped for TTC depends on weight. I have really almost come to the point where im thinking of buying scales but I simply do not have the space for them and 900 bucks for one time use is a bit steep.

a rock quarry back home would weigh your car..but I am pretty sure they only go in 50 or 100lb increments

Goddamit DJ if you ASKED Tech, they might weigh your car.

And by tech, I mean Kaan and Rex.

We might even give you your corners. But, uh, you've never asked.

edit: If you can wait until November, Kaan and I will weigh your shit. If you give Mitchum a handy in October he might do the same.

Actually the 2 times I asked Kaan he said no, and it was perfectly understandable cause one was ridiculously hot (july when SCCA scales failed), and anther time when you were busy.

And me saying Tech as NASA is busy, is just saying that you guys looked wiped from pushing up and down cars so I was trying not to annoy you guys and see if there are other options. Was no hit on you guys. I may annoy you guys at November Tongue.

Reason why:

Weigh the car now to see IF I can pull weight and still be at weight. And by how much. October I want to be pulling the entire sunroof assembly so if im underweight now (or will be) I can build ballast for it. The november event is a check to make sure im at weight for the upcoming next season.

Thank you very much for your answer man.

Pretty sure the Waste Transfer Station off West Ox in Fairfax can do that. I know when we drop off stuff there to trash/recycle they weigh the truck before and after. I don't see any reason why you couldnt drive up and just weigh your M3 there.

Pull the weight now anyways, including your sunroof if you really want to; wouldn't it be better to be as light as possible so that you know your absolute min so you can figure out the ballast later in the winter. Also, starve yourself for the week prior to the event so you can figure the lowest weight you'll ever hit. Weigh your turd at the track and then figure out the ballast and such over the winter.

Just tell Mitchum you are trying to class yourself for TT.... You never told me that!

As it sits... I'm going to guess 3472.

35lbs off 3400, but he guessed 3472, thats over 100lbs difference. For my purposes, even 35lbs is big.

roll bar scales more than a BMW stock rear interior

Stock Vaders are 70-90lbs a piece wether heated or powered. Mine were powered. Those are replaced by Sparco Pro2000s with aluminum mounting plates and no sliders. Probably almost enough to offset the bar by themselves with the stock seatbelts all gone as well. Carpet was an amazing (kid you not) 40-50lbs. Ive never seen such a thick carpet, foam was 6-inches thick in places Confusedhock: .

Weight Removal so far (weights are conservative estimates, it may be much more):

Stock Vaders replaced with Pro2000s (70lbs a piece stock, lets say 30 a piece aftermarket, 80lbs total weight savings)
Removed Driver and Passenger side airbags. (20lbs)
Stock steering wheel replaced with Sparco with no quick-disconnect. (3lbs)
No Carpet (35lbs)
No rear seats/trim panels. (15lbs)
All trunk panels removed along with cd changer (3lbs)
Spare and Tools removed (45lbs)
Aftermarket exhaust (40lbs-25lbs) 15lbs saved
Aftermrket wheels (23 a piece to 16.3 a piece, 6.7 each, 26.8lbs)
Plus width tires (probably added about 5lbs a piece conservative)

Conservative estimate removed: 222lbs conservative. Roll Bar: 90lbs (doubt it was that much)
Harnesses: 30lbs total with hardware (haha way cautious on this one)

So 120 conservatively went in.

so I lost maybe 100lbs at the least from a stock weight of 3175. But since stupid forum people go saying that stock seats weigh as much as 90lbs, and spares way over 50, and rear seats are +30, I dont know what to beleive, but I know forum people overestimate usually.

I have to weigh 3000 for Capital Driving Club without a driver and 3175 for NASA with driver. Lucky im about 175-178lbs depending on the day, so my aim is to get the car to 3000lbs with 1/4 tank of gas. And use gas as my ballast.

Gasoline is not very dense and also sloshes around in the tank so its not really an ideal material to use as ballast. Also, you probably won't have much of it left at the end of timed sessions which is when your car will most likely be weighed for TT purposes.
