Who can find the tranny

My girlfriend has an 86 Jetta with a blown transmission.
Does anyone know of a place to get a used or referbed tranny? The shop wants 1500 for the tranny alone, they must be insane. Let me know if you guys have any ideas. Thanks Justin

i think i read a survey somewhere that says vwvortex is the largest car enthusiast weboard out there.....but just give us some time and we'll be contesting first! 8)

try lookin on ebay for one, because as we all know, ebay is god
 it'd help to have the tranny code, just type that in a search and you will most likely get hits, who knows though, worth a shot

F&K or French's - both are in the yellow pages and local.
I've bought stuff from both... gearbox in the saturn came from F&K (after the original blew up... )
