Hah and without fail....I've had this phone for literally two days and I just dropped it on the concrete at my pool. Awesome
At least it only scuffed up the corners, the screen is fine. The irony is that I have an ebay hardcase and screen protector literally in the mail as I type this.

i've found people to be chronic phone droppers or not. are you a chronic dropper?
i know folks who go through multiple phones per year... i've never broken one. i probably average one drop per three years.

Oh dude, I drop phones all the time...especially with how much drinking I do. You should see my BlackBerry...it's a year old and the back of the case is destroyed, the button that holds it in is gone, etc. That's why I'm getting a hard case for this thing!

Not only that, but you can generally tell if people are or aren't within the first 20 minutes of meeting them.
I've never broken a phone but someone like Paul Baz? I'm sure he is a net loss for phone insurance companies.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
My comparison sucked... People are chronic droppers or they don't drop them at all... There is no middle ground.
I think you guys understood what I was getting at

I definitey fall under chronic phone dropper. Hence why I bought the rediculously protecting otter box for my phone.

Really enjoying this phone so far. The Sprint rep installed ATK (advanced task killer) to help prolong battery life, because he told me that Android pulls up applications that run in the background even when you're not using them. However, after a bunch of my own research, the newest version of Android is designed to allow these programs to work without affecting battery life. I don't know anything about software development, but there are a bunch of articles out there from Google and private developers that have said ATKs are actually detrimental to your phone. So I deleted it, went through every app on my phone and set the 3G/4G access restrictions to be minimized as much as possible, set startup permissions to be minimized, lowered the screen brightness, turned off the active wallpaper (that looks badass but eats the battery) and I'm hoping this will help battery life. The good news is that the battery life wasn't really much worse than my old worn out Blackberry, but hopefully this will help.
I had the first "dress jeans" test with the phone, and it was actually MORE comfortable in my pocket than my BB Curve was because it has a thinner profile. It will be interesting to see how much of an effect the hard case makes, but the phone was comfortable in the front and back pocket.
As far as the wireless hotspot, I ran across this article and may try it out:

Cliff notes are that someone found a way to root the phone without causing problems with your phone and you can wirelessly tether for free instead of paying $30 per month thanks to Sprint's unlimited data plan.
I also found a pretty good GPS rangefinder for $1.99 that I might try out

Wanted to get y'alls advice on phones:
I have pretty much made up my mind that I want to switch from ATT to Verizon as my ATT contract is up. I was pretty set on getting the HTC Incredible as I hear its incredible. I went to the Verizon store and they said its on back order until July 22 so I looked online and it says the same thing on Verizon's site. Now the Droid X comes out on July 15th so I imagine that the HTC Incredible will either be cheaper when the X comes out or I'd get some other perk. However if I wait until after the 15th, do I run the risk of not getting the batch of Incredibles set to come out on the 22nd? Do you guys think it'll be cheaper when the X comes out? I hear the Droid X is supposed to be pretty sweet as well but I know its slightly bigger than the Incredible which is already pushing the envelope for me.
To throw another variable in the mix, since me and my wife are on one plan, she'll also need a new phone. As of right now, if I get the regular Motorola Droid, I can buy 1 get 1 free.
Before this weekend, I was pretty set on getting the Incredible but now that option seems like the most hassle. What would you do?

Just wait until the new Droid comes out if you're set on Verizon. You can call around to other Verizon stores and they might get some Incredibles in sooner. That's what I did for the EVO, they're sold out / waitlisted everywhere, but I actually found one at a Sprint kiosk at the mall after calling around...the manager had one set aside for his roommate and with some careful convincing he gave it to me
Is there a reason why you picked Verizon over the other carriers? Do you not get coverage for the other carriers in your area? You do realize that Verizon is significantly more expensive for phone / data plans than Sprint, for pretty similar coverage.
Edit: I had Verizon for 9 years before I switched to Sprint because they wouldn't negotiate at all on their plan rates when I was looking to upgrade to a BlackBerry data plan. And they were much more expensive.

I've found Sprint coverage to be weaker in the mid-Atlantic than Verizon and ATT. YMMV.
I don't think the Incredible will see a price drop that quickly. IMO, the Droid X looks pretty awful and it's freaking HUGE. If you want a soft keyboard, just order the Incredible online and wait for it to come in the mail. If you want a hard keyboard, get the two Droids (or wait for the Droid 2 to come out).

Yeah it might depend on where you are. I've never had an issue with travelling and such with losing coverage, although it is slightly more noticeable than Verizon to get fewer bars. I get spoiled because I get 3G and 4G coverage here in Charlotte.
I looked at the Sprint coverage map though, and in Charlottesville you have a good signal strength for Sprint's voice network and you also have good 3G coverage all the way over to Lake Monticello. I don't think you'd be sacrificing anything by considering Sprint, unless you travel to a lot of areas that don't get Sprint coverage.

Had MISERABLE coverage via ATT in the Tidewater region this weekend. Could be that my phone was confused since it was brand new? I've had issues with having to reset the network settings after traveling a distance... In fact, I think Apple recommends it... Kinda weird. First time I've had poor coverage with them since my account opened in '97 :?

100% chronic dropper - I cracked the back case on my iPhone and 2 weekends ago I finally cracked the screen (i was in chicago for a bachelor party so I think thats pretty excusable). I will say apple just handed me a new phone (3G) 66 days out of warranty, so  for that.
on that note - anyone have any recommendations for cases - I'd like to keep this one around for awhile
Sprint vs Verizon coverage is a non-issue since sprint roams for free on verizon (and vice versa)
I had AT&T for 3 years and coverage was slightly worse than sprint, and travelling south it was much worse.
All I know is that ATT coverage inside our house is spotty (0-1 bars) and calls sometimes get dropped. Friends with Sprint are relegated to a corner of an upstairs bedroom if they want to make calls. Friends with Verizon have a consistent 1-bar signal and don't seem to have problems inside our house.
I might call around and see if anyone has the Incredible in stock per Lee's suggestion.

Alright! As usual my cheap ass Ebay case and screen protector came in pretty fast. Phone is definitely bulkier with it, but it's a necessary evil for me. I don't do phone insurance because you have to pay a $100 deductible with Sprint's anyway, so hopefully it will stay in good shape!!

Just chiming in here. I decided to stay with Verizon despite the iphone 4 craze and I couldn't be happier. I bought the HTC incredible and...well...it's incredible. sleek, fully functional without noticeable bugs, and great service. I use a lot of things Google and I've found the Android OS to be very useful and easy to use. I've recently started using Google voice and although it's not perfect it helps when I can read my voice mail as opposed to calling and being forced to listen. my only complaint so far is the battery life, but I'm constantly on it...so I can't really complain too much. service is, and has always been, fantastic with Verizon. this thing also takes great pictures.
