Possible "Baltimore Grand Prix"
#1
According to Fox45 in Baltimore:

Quote:Today, the Board of Estimates approved a 5-year agreement with Baltimore Racing Development to allow for an IndyCar® 'Baltimore Grand Prix' street-racing event around the Inner Harbor & Camden Yards in August of 2011.

Haven't seen it on their site but this is the FB page:

Need to find details but I doubt IndyCar would deny the race if BRD can make it happen. (Or however that works..)

I wish the DC F1 would have been allowed to happen, hopefully this will.

EDIT: I found this cool site called "Google" and it found more details for me:

A quick scan makes it sound like a pretty done deal...

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

the DC GP was a done deal back in '02 when they had the Cadillac Grand Prix of the American Le Mans. they built the track, held the race, and then realized how loud race cars were and the thing was placed out of commission after the neighbors complained...something like that could happen to this track too...depending on how close it is to residences.

you can see how close the track was to some homes in the north-west part of the map/track

Speed World Challenge follows IRL around the country and we (944 Cup) are running a race with them this year. Talks have already begun to try and race with them if the Baltimore thing happens. Big Grin

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

i will definitely go up there to watch if they have it, but man - they need to repave those roads. has anyone else driven there? the roads are AWFUL! you practically need a car with a high clearance and lots of sidewall on the tires to make it through baltimore.

and I believe that the concrete jersey walls that line Summit Shenandoah circuit were bought from the scrapped DC GP race. It was pretty sweet to have that race there but its a shame it got canned after only 1 year. I hope the Baltimore one doesn't suffer the same fate.

Both Big-Guy....both.

I think that's part of the deal, the city will get some free repaving from the organizers and some of the fees the city gets are also supposed to go into a neighborhood improvement fund.
I really like that part of town and will definitely attend. Maybe a late summer MM event?

I forgot about the ALMS race, that was a very busy time for me...new house, wife and kids all within a month my hair was literally falling out.

I thought I remember an F1 race being planned for DC in the streets and there was the same paving discussion, a few years before the '02 race...
