Great day out at Verona like usual! It is always fun to run out with BRR and today was no different! Fun to see some new faces out there as well- well done to Ken, Kristin and Andrew for getting out there! Believe me- it is a slippery slope from there!
Was kinda bummed to throw away 1st in STX on the end gate cones but hey- it was a fun day nonetheless!
Some pictures- like usual, I spent more time riding/driving than taking pictures but here are a few from the beginning of the day!

Those corvairs were so freaking loud. My ears are still ringing lol.
2000 Acura Integra LS - Low and slow
1990 Mazda Miata - Primered, gutless, work in progress
I learned, quite quickly, not to pull up directly behind them when waiting in line. Rock spray = no fun.
I had a blast though, i'm glad that i was able to provide Kristin a car to drive for the day too; considering she had little to no experience with my fat-ass of a car she did REALLY well (neutral drops being excluded).
I can definitely seeing these becoming an addiction....

I definitely did not go into today thinking I was going to drive, but many thanks to Ken for the ride! Poor Ken and I were like the least skilled (compared to everyone else) going into this, but I think we learned a lot today and our times were not bad for being NOOBS. Team Mini-Jet..ftw! Sorry for the neutral drop, totally blame Chris, seriously I was not planning on ever doing that Ah and two minute pour-down...oh how perfectly was that timed, poor Joey...poor poor Joey.
Props to Turn 1 for the random skate trailer shielding the rain
Anyway I had a blast, auto-crossing feels like a day at the track for me, but with a lot less work and stress involved! I mean fast cars, some puppies, lots of testosterone, ya know the sorts of things a girl needs in her life, the necessities. uh yeah..well I can't wait to have my own car now to run!! Overall, today was a great study break and nice end to freshman year.

Looks like everyone did well, and man that rain sucked! (top was down and tonnau cover was just put on when it happened..eh well, got lucky the rain dried for the 4th run group. Not sure who all the VT entries were but next fall should be interesting. Anybody down for the event at VT in June?
So how's everybody's tires after the event? (I'm a hopeless tire junkie)

Verona always kills my tires- the transition in the pavement and the chunky asphalt seem to really take a toll. Are you running star specs?

100% IN for the event at Virginia Tech. Chad is going to co-drive the Otter and we may have a few others showing as well.
The R-comps are um, a bit chewed up. The front two really took a beating on the washboard parts of the course. What were little pock marks in the rubber are now slightly larger missing chunks of the top layer of rubber. Guess those two are going on the rear wheels :dunno:
Gonna try and score another set of R-Comps from some poor soul at Hyperfest, I spose.

Maengelito Wrote:they're tires, people... they're supposed to get chewed up! True! I was just asking because I noticed the nice all-season/performance tires on some cars and heard a lot of violent things happening on the turnaround parts of the track. Just hoping that doesn't turn people off of an otherwise awesome badass sport-per-dollar ratio.

Yeah I love my star specs, last year I got 17k and 100 autocross runs out of them, probably could have gone another 2k miles but the rubber had hardened alot by that point. The new 205's are much better for the miata (had 195/55's) and since the car is light I don't butcher them that bad, just a lil hazing on the center treadline, side blocks are in pretty good shape still.

If I may...
I can get about 80 competition runs out of a set of R-comps on the Mini. Thats not bad considering the abuse the front tires take in a camber challenged FWD car. I do rotate them front to back for every event to even out the wear. I run a lot at Verona and I don't find it especially hard on tires.
What can kill your tires are the wrong inflation pressures, push from overdriving into turns, sliding/oversteer on corner exit, and excessive wheel spin. The magic of R-comps is that the rubber is super soft. That is where the grip comes from. If you slide or spin them they will wear just like the eraser on a pencil. This is also the case, but to a lesser extent to the sticky "street" tires used in the ST classes.
