Wow the Japanese factories will look really stupid if BMW comes in and kicks their asses in the 600 cc supersport market. I hope this touches off a sportbike arms race the likes of which we've never seen...

BMW spark a price race? I seriously doubt that.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
They already fired a pretty solid shot in the 1000cc market.

Iunno... being priced 10% higher doesn't seem like it would spark a price war to me.

10% here, 10% there and before you know it (like now) we are paying double what we used to pay for a bike. you cant tell me we've had 100% inflation in 10 years.

Oh, you meant BMW pushing prices higher. Yeah, that I agree with.
I think the sharp increase is due to all the technology that goes on these bikes now. There is so much crap, like ABS, DST, brakes, etc, etc, etc, that just weren't a part of mainstream sportbikes 10 years ago. Someone's gotta pay for all that R&D
I'm just salty that a 10 y/o Ducati is still 2x what I paid for my SV 5.5 years ago.

well the new bike prices have driven up the used bike prices IMO.
traction control, ABS, etc... i get that... but the prices didnt jump this fast when bikes were switching over to "exotic" metals.

And now the BMW makes 20hp over anything else. The rest of them will scramble to catch up, and raise prices to match.

Quote:BMW has officially denied the existence or development of a 600cc sportsbike to run alongside the all-conquering S1000RR released this year.
The denial has come about after it emerged that BMW owns the internet domain name www.s600rr.de but clarification from BMW claims this was done to protect the rights to the name because someone else was trying to use it in Germany.
