It sounded like when Chris P posted a question about who wanted to work, 4 people expressed interest pretty fast. And then a few more people expressed interest. I am always holding 4 spots for MM and I already had a wait list for people who are non MM, so it seems we are having a lot of people who want to work! That is great news, but now I guess you need to determine the best way to decide who is working each event. It seems logical to do first-come, first-serve once the thread is developed, but if you don't happen to be on your computer the first day the thread is posted, you lose out. And, if you don't know when the thread will be posted, tough luck for that person. Does anyone have any ideas for the best and most fair way to determine who the 4 workers should be for each event? I will let you guys determine the answer and am happy with whatever you decide.
If we have a person who is experienced at corners, can handle a corner position solo, and will definitely show up, I can take another MM person that way. Or, if I can figure out another need for a person, I can add a position. But right now, I do want to hold open 2 spaces for non-MM people to be fair to others wanting to build up credits.
If we have any people who are happy with just a free lunch and space on a floor, I can do that. I would add a hotel room for Saturday night at Shoney's to take care of those people.
Any other ideas?

I would be glad to work a corner if you need another corner worker. I worked solo at VIR and i'll be more than happy to work another one this time around if you need another worker.

I think the most involved people will be on thread anyway, so they should get first dibs. They should have precedence over someone that hasn't done it before.

As someone who enjoys working these events and has at least a *little* seniority, I think that new folks should be given an opportunity to work events - that way they get some exposure to what is really the heart of what MM does these days.

I think my vote would go towards a list - the people at the top of the list are given the opportunity to call dibs on the next event. If they can't 100% commit to it, say 2 weeks in advance, then drop down to the next person. Anyone who commits to an event but doesn't show is banned from working for a set period of time or all together.

I have to agree with my dearest husband on both of these thoughts. And, no... not just because "I'm his wife and I have to."

If anyone has ideas for an equitable way to divide worker responsibilty while rewarding those who are reliable... pipe up. OGs... in your experience, has this come up, and if so (doesn't even have to be MM-related), how has it been decided?

No, this hasn't ever come up. In the past NASA really needed as many workers they could get. Nowadays, as Laura said, they have plenty, and can only give us so many spots... I'm with John on the solution. Rob, don't ever go in to politics.

As one of the first people to state interest in working, I wouldn't mind letting someone who has yet to work an event to take my place..

I'd still come and whore rides on the track though Wink

I think that we can arrange something where we have a list based on who says they are interested. Work our way down the list over the course of several events so that everybody has an equal chance.

Could also establish a running list of everybody interested in flagging. Two weeks before each event, ask the next people if they will be able to make it, work our way down the list until all slots are filled. Restart at that point for the next event and just cycle through.

Laura, when I first got involved with NASA we were working in the corners. I understand the reasons for not doing this any more (lack of reliability), but based on the large number of people interested in working now and the fact that our club has grown considerably since then, would it be possible to start getting some MMers into some buckets again next year? Feel free to PM me or email me if you'd like to discuss this further.

I agree. You don't want to shun those that have show a commitment before, away from another event b/c they were 4hrs late in posting or need a day or two to check schedules. Also, you can't have someone pipping up 4 weeks before the event saying they are going to work, thus turning away someone else, then 1 week prior, something comes up and they can't make it. Now you are short a worker b/c the committed worker that was 4hr in posting, has made other plans. I would hate to see that happen. I'm all for getting new people invoved, but if you make it somewhat of a challenge, you have less that will back out at the last minute witht he mindset of, I'll just catch them next time...

we need a list, that is fo sho... when you work, you go to the bottom of it... if you're at the top of the list and you cannot work a certain event, you stay at the top and get first dibs on the next one. if you are a no-show, don't do your duty or whatever, you are put to the bottom of the list, and when you finally make it back to the top you go right back down to the bottom, i'm thinking doing this twice would be fair.
