weighing my options....
#1
Ok, as you all know Im getting a bit tired of used cars and was looking to sell my Corrado.

Well... I just deposited a $3k check in the bank today and am debating what I want to do with it Tongue
I know that I have about 1k in credit card debt so that will be first to be payed off. That leaves $2k to either put on a down payment along with what Ill get from my corrado.... or $2k to start a project, not get into debt... and either sell my corrado to put some into the project and some into savings or use parts from the corrado (drivetrain since its new) in this new and upcomming project.

Pros of getting a sub 30k mile car
WARRANTY
Ease of mind about not having problems
Less things to fix initially

Cons
More expensive to fix
Ill be going right back into debt
insurance (Ill need comprehensive, not just liability)

Pros of a Rabbit with 27k on it owned by an 80 year old
Only liability for insurance
Im an MK1 god
CHEAP for everything
A certain G60 Turbo motor drops right in
good mpg
perfect condition
im not going into debt
I will have about 4k leftover after paying off credit and buying the car
its light and sexy

Cons
its not a new car

So thats where Im at right now... here are some pics of the car

other than the funky color, the old car route seems to be the better option of the two. Since you know these cars inside and out, have lots of parts that can be put onto it, and will come out ahead financially, I believe you should go with the Rabbit
As for new cars, shit breaks on them too and you still have to maintain them, they just look nicer, cost more, and have similar problems (albeit, not as often).

lol Im trying to get away from used 'high tech' cars mongoose Tongue

The thing with the rabbit is theres literally no comforts... nothing to go wrong electrically, etc... and anything thats mechanical will deal with the drivetrain.... and ill have 4k leftover, an AWP 180 hp. 1.8t swap costs 1500 if anything should go wrong ever Wink

Buy the rabbit.

You can paint it flat black.

It will be bad ass.

Simple sentences are good.

gotta love the khaki kraut! that 1.8t swap sounds killer.

i love old hatches. they have so much character. plus you know that car inside and out, so the project will be fun most of the time!

brett, stop buying pieces of shit. Honestly. I don't know what you were thinking buy the Corrado. Yes, it was cool, but it needed A LOT of work. Buy something that won't need a lot of extensive work. If you think that that rabbit will hold up, go for it. Just don't buy some guys half finished project car again.

yes i know jack.. and thats what Im doing... either getting a completely new stock car or a completely mint older stock car. The corrado was a mistake as I need a car to DRIVE not have fun with on the weekends.

But i mean all in all, trading it for my old jetta, i came out ahead. I mean I can sell just the turbo setup off of the corrado for more than i could have gotten cash wise for the jetta.

Even with the $ Ive dropped into the C, im still going to come out FAR ahead of what I would have if I would have gotten outright cash for my previous car... so I figure its not that bad lol

lol jk, id like one, but for a 5th gen in great shape itd be like 2.5-4k.... then another 2500 for a motor swap, then other work... before i knew it id be back where I started with a car thats expensive to fix and so forth.

Ill have about 4k to save after the sale of my rado, paying off bills, and buying this rabbit. So Id say its safe to say im comming out ahead Smile

uhm, not really. there isn't a single part on a civic that i'd say is expensive... maybe a motor... but i hope you don't plan on going those too often. otherwise, it's all cheap and widely available.

yea, ive heard of so much shady crap going on with performance parts and motors and such in the honda/acura world it scares me.
Granted its probably the largest import sector of the market so naturally there is going to be more problems than the modding market for early vws or something, but i mean man... i remember reading all the posts on hondatech a few years ago of people getting ripped off left and right when trying to get stuff for their car... Sad

im also not looking to spend all of my leftover money. Id like to put at least 50% in savings

you can find some cheap hatches w/swaps already if you look hard enough, and willing to travel..

most of them I dont trust, but thats a risk you take when you buy any used car..

I sold my bro's LS 92 SI for $3500 to a friend, and yes I sold his car because he was that lazy...

and thats my problem, ive found you can only really trust 50% of what people say when you buy a used car. And 75% of what they dont say are the most important parts you find out later.

Id rather stick with a mint stock car rather that one thats been hacked up and half assed and throwing out a gamble on whether or not your getting a gem or a modded car, or a big pile of doo doo.
