NASA VMP Autox Jan. 24th

Epic fail: Brought my summer wheel/tire setup to replace my winter wheel/tire setup, and forgot the spacers to put them on. I ended up overcooking it way too much and being dumb, but I slowed it down just a bit (not enough still tho) and managed to get the time I wanted but coned it away on the second to last run.

Last run I came in with the time I wanted and no cones, so I was happy, however, in the records, one book says I got a cone, one says I didnt, (unnoficial sticky note time said I did not as well, along with me thinking I had not). Sooo...hopefully goodspeed caught my last run on video, or if someone else knows for definite wether I hit a cone or not on the last run.

Either way, I had a good time, and as usual NASA puts on the best autocrosses, most amount of runs, and a relaxed atmosphere. May have to take my lunch breaks during NASA weekends to circuitcross and maybe compete for NXD championship points this year.

Yea it sounds like you didn't hit a cone on that last run, and beat me fair and square. Mistakes do occasionally happen, this is why we have redundant results collection. Luckily there were only two issues (so far - both with one version showing a cone and the other not showing it) across ~500 recorded runs. Not bad I guess. As you know, working the timing table ain't easy...

Hey Jon, I had the same problem. On the results you posted, It said +1 to my fastest run. My last and fastest run was clean according to the sticky as well as me thinking I did not.

Aside from that, that was my first autox in the m3 and I have to say I fell in love. I had quite a bit of fun drifting it unintentionally of course. I was getting used to the car. The autox was very organized and I loved the course. Cant wait for the next event at vmp!

Ok, 3 mistakes out of 500 runs, still not bad hahaha. I'll look into it, there's a list of minor changes to those results, in progress.

IIRC all of the E36 M3's in attendance can be seen in action during the second half of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MtP1HtoMig

Shit out of 500, 3 is miniscule!!! And these are clearups, NOT mistakes. Thats why there are 2 record books. Hopefully we can provide concrete evidence, I forgot to turn on my camera...damn even had my camera mount connected and everything.

After working timing for autocross, christ im surprised there arent more mistakes. For those who havent worked timing for autocross, details such as untrained workers calling bad cones/fuzzy radios/bad terminology/timing box trips/key errors/double car entries etc.... all make it difficult, which is why they use 2 timing records.

Again, thank you Felton for your continued activity on MMSports.

Edit: and bahahah they catch one of my 2 runs where I run over a bajillion cones.

Looks fun guys. Wish I could have been there. I want me a M3 now to join in on the fun..

Robin's LS2 FD is awesome. He did a great job with build, super clean.

Hopefully I can make my way up to the next one.

I just looked into this, both the computer and the backup handwritten timing sheets have you with +2 cones on your final (and otherwise fastest) run. Although it's possible that both are wrong it is extremely unlikely. I'd chalk that one up to timeslip writer error... and dunno what to tell ya about thinking it was a clean run... perhaps they were very quietly & gently hit cones.
