Clean 91 crx si
#1
So i went and checked out a 91 crx si today. The price is 2k, it has 207k on the odometer, and has oodles of new parts including: timing belt, tensioner, water pump, valve cover gasket, power steering belt, alternator belt, distributor, cap, button, wires, plugs, battery, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, front axles, brakes all around. He is the third owner, hasn't driven it, and he knew both the former owners, one of which drove it from 50k to what it has now. He knows everything about the car, and it has been owned by mostly older men (the guy who has it now is 51 and the guy before him is 10 years older). It's also getting a new windshield as the one on there was broken by someone obviously angry. So, I put $400 on it, and have 90 days to pay the other 1600... Big Grin yay new car for me!!

so it looks like only about 3-4 rust spots. nothing too major, and hatch is clean, and the undercarriage is clean as well

well, for a 91 that's been sitting for a while, it's in decent condition.

of course i tried to negotiate, but this is the only crx si i've found that wasn't already "tuned" and it's in a lot better condition than most of the others. the other ones i found were out of my price range and had motor swaps. i don't want to fuck with other people's swaps. so yes, i'll be paying $2000 for it.

Wow...sorry dude...but that sounds like a bad deal. I would try to back out. I'm not trying to hate...but the car you have now is in decent shape right? You can get a lot of car for $2000...a lot more car then that. I saw a nice one (not an SI) in Winchester for $800.

jeff, i understand what you're saying, but i haven't been able to find anything stock for a decent price. i don't want to motor swap, and i don't want something that isn't an si. i want the sunroof. and i'm ok with the body needing some work. i'm not looking for a race car here. i was trying to find something original, and this is what i found. i like it. a lot. it runs really well. and i'm really happy with it. i'm ok paying the price for "a pile" because it's original. so bring on the hate guys, i don't care. I expect the hate now anyways...

I've been there before and bought junk like this. It is absolutely, 100% not worth it. Keep looking and there are things other than old busted rusty hondas out there - even if it takes you a while to find something.

See if you can split the deposit and let the guy keep $200 for his time and call it a lesson learned.

Quoted for truth. I've made the same mistake (except mine was a "cheap" Porsche 944). It's not worth it. The right car will come

RJ, I'm not trying to sound like an idiot, i'm just trying to find out where you're coming from. but, other than the quarter panels, what is so "busted rusty" about it?

also, if the image above is something that i should "wait for" i don't want to wait. most of the si's have already been motor swapped and are easily twice what i'm paying for this one. On the other hand, I like doing bodywork. I want to do all the body work on the crx and then paint it a certain color. I don't want to buy an already nice/tuned car. I want to do that myself. So, considering this car needs body work, and typical maintenance, I'm ok with what I'm spending to get the originality that comes with the car.

I'm not trying to be defensive or upset, I'm just trying to get my point across, because I don't think that I effectively stated my objective for the car in the original post. So, regardless of what everyone thinks, I love the car. I am beyond excited for the car, and can't wait to get my car sold, and begin the process of turning it into something like the picture above. You all can hate as much as you want, but i think you'll change your minds once you see the progress.

i think we're [collectively] saying you could have paid half that if you plan on doing bodywork and paint.

Everyone can argue prices paid/worth of cars till the cows come home. While it may be true it was a bit pricey and not "clean", arguing 2k over 1k is a bit silly, IMO. I really like CRX's, always have, so I can't wait to see the progress on this, congrats!

Taylor, I will say (and this will help a lot to reduce the hate) after the MR2 and Civic, give this car a damn good paintjob
