So I've got a North Carolina title for the 300ZX. It's signed by the seller and notarized, but does not include any mention of the sale price of the vehicle, nor does it have an entry on the title form for that sale price. According the Virginia DMV website, I need "proof of purchase price, such as a buyer's order, bill of sale, or the seller declared sale price on the title certificate" in order to title the car in Virginia. Can I just use the same color ink to write in the "sale" price of the car somewhere on the NC title, or will the DMV give me grief?

If you don't lie about the price you can write it up and sign it as the seller. Signing something on behalf of another person is not plagiarism unless fraud is intended.

I went to the DMV, with no price in the "price" slot of the title, and asked the lady at the DMV, "She gave it to me, what should I put?"
They don't care much. Just put in whatever. If you use matching ink, that'd be great, but don't sweat it too much.

That is for newish vehicles or vehicles purchased from a dealer. Just go and they will look up the price in the NADA and charge you tax on that.

Yeah really. The wheel/tire package cost me several thousand dollars (high resale on those OEM Nissan wheels), but there was a car attached too... Might as well title it too
When I got the title for my supra (maryland title) the price section was left blank as well as the buyer section. I put $2,000 on it and the dmv didn't ask any questions. All they really see in the VIN number and "1995 Toyota". I've done that on every vehicle that I have purchased except for my first camaro, since I bought it from a dealership.

They won't look up shit, seriously. Just scribble it in on the NC title in similar ink. It's common practice to undervalue the car on there, just not so low they suspect something. They have no idea what condition it's in, it could be a total peice that isn't worth a grand. I wouldn't put down over $5000 for sure. Funniest experience I had with that was when I baught my MX6 from a cop, and he came with us to the DMV to sign it over, and even he wouldn't let me write down the real price, neither would my dad. I had to talk both of them UP to a compromise, I felt guilty!
john, check the back of the title... i think mine had the field for it there.

The NC title doesn't have that field, but I'll just write it in somewhere.
Went to the DMV - that was a huge joke. The guy never even looked at the back of the title except to see that both Jess and I had signed it. He took the amount that I had put on the title/registration form and used that as the sale price - no bill of sale necessary. Oh and he didn't even look at the passports and pay stubs that we brought to prove our identity or whatever.
So, the 300ZX is now titled in VA and will soon have "MM 300ZX" custom plates 8)
