Looking to get a 1911. Must be a .45 and I am mostly interested in a 5" barrel.

Talk to Jeff. He is maybe still selling his Kimber to fund some jackassery of some kind.
Otherwise, may I humbly suggest fluffing and buffing a new Rock Island, you could have a nice one for under 500 otd, if you're still in HBurg the Rockingham Co. Co-op tries to keep them in stock.

I'm with Rex, I picked up a Rock Island 1911 from the Co-op about a year ago and I love the gun.

I have one too - great gun!
My two feet.
Yeah the Rock Island most likely what I will go with. Would it be worth it to get the tactical or just add those mods mydelf later?

The big difference between the standard and the tactical is the sights...I'd go with the tactical. It's only a couple extra bucks, and I'd want a gunsmith to replace the sights on my pistol anyway, just to make sure they were zero'd correctly. GI Sights on a 1911 are fucking terrible.
Edit: according to Sarco's latest SGN ad, they've got standard RIA 1911's for 339, Tacticals for 399. Add a 20 dollar FFL fee and shipping, and that's still a pretty good deal. Although as I said, the CO-Op has them semi-regularly.

A Glock break-in has a pretty different meaning from the break-in a tight 1911 requires.
Only glock fanbois insist on breaking them in. Most people, as he says, don't do it and do just fine.
