While I love a fancy meal with lots of sides and flare, sometimes a good old fashioned giant T-bone steak just hits the spot.

I'm looking into hydroponics sets right now so that I can grow my own fruits and herbs indoors. I bought a bunch of fresh fruit at the grocery store the other day and think it's ridiculous how expensive it is. Spices too. I like the fact that you don't have to worry about bugs or using pesticides with hydroponic setups and how there are more nutrients in the plants you harvest.
There are some SUPER expensive complicated setups out there, but this one looks decent for what it is.

Relatively cheap and looks pretty easy to use. The only downside is that you have to use these preseeded pods. You can buy a master grower kit for like $40 that lets you plant your own seeds, but apparently some plants don't do well in it. I really just want to do herbs, blueberries and strawberries.
I'm also going to start researching how to build my own setup. I'm sure I could make a decent one for a lot cheaper, but I like the Aerogarden as far as a turnkey setup. Anyone had any experience with these?

Grow your own herb maybe... I don't know about fruit.
Spring is coming, ever think about trying to grow stuff outdoors? We had a rather large strawberry patch at our old house and we didn't have to do anything to maintain it.

Yeah I thought about it! My mother has a little herb pot and a few tomato plants out on her back deck. She does get bugs sometimes though which is kind of what I'm trying to avoid. I'm really good at killing plants so a setup like that is appealing to me because it's pretty straightforward haha.

here's a good one Jen and I made last night. all you need is a dutch oven (i used a cast iron deep skillet/shallow skillet combo). i bet you could crock-pot it too but probably not a let-cook-while-you're-at-work thing like most crock stuff
about 3 lbs. split chicken breasts (get em cheap on sale!)
4 red potatoes, quartered
1 package mushrooms, chopped
quarter to half an onion, diced
about half a green pepper chopped
1 teaspoon rosemary chopped
1 cup pinot grigio or whatever white wine you like/have left over
salt/pepper to taste
layer/dump in the cooker in that order. get your cooker nice and hot, then put the stuff in and walk away while your house starts to smell awesome!
cook at 375 for an hour and a half. cost us about $8 total and fed us both for 2 days.
