If you're toting it around at all the 15" is much, much preferred. I have a 17" last-gen and hate trying to fit it in bags. Yeah, the resolution of the 13" is too low for me to consider it more than a netbook.

I've played around with the new 15" macbook pro a little and I have nothing but fantastic things to say about it. I think what impressed me the most was how sturdy it felt compared to my regular plastic-cased macbook, so I may have been just as impressed with the 13" model as well.
I would consider picking one up if they introduced a 64-bit version of any of the laptops, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.

Mac Trojan hits pirated copies of Adobe Photoshop

Although Apple's Macintosh environment has long been touted by its fans as "more secure" than Windows, a Trojan enabling remote control of Mac machines struck a second time this week. Earlier found only in illegal copies of Apple's iWork Suite, the Trojan has now turned up in pirated copies of Adobe Photoshop for Mac OS X. Actually, the Trojan doesn't even exploit any OS vulnerability. Instead, it disguises itself as part of the installer package for the application, so it is installed along with the application. Once installed, the malware launches a back door program, thereby allowing an attacker to remotely conduct misdeeds such as copying data. A tool for detecting and removing specifically this Trojan is now available from SecureMac.com.

BTW - some media guy recently ran an article saying that thanks to Apple switching to those retarded high gloss screens that Apple is nowhere near the echelon of best laptop displays. It was on Slashdot if you desire to seek the article.
I personally don't get the high gloss frenzy and it is why I won't buy a new laptop - it seems all of them have it and they fucking blow. Glare is just ridiculous on most of them.

Can one of you cool tech guys tell me why the new unibody macbooks are better than the previous generation and/or worth the extra expense? We just bought a new previous generation 2.4Ghz MB for 939 as opposed to the new 1600 dollar unibody MB. Seems like a faster graphics card and overkill aluminum frame is all there is to it.

the keyboard is much improved, but you're right, nothing to really warrant the difference in price. that said, if i were buying, i'd get an aluminum one

I will chime in and say that I prefer glossy screen laptops to matte screens.. unless I'm near a window or outdoors but then they both suck, matte just sucks less.
The unibody macs have DDR3 memory dont they? Multi touch trackpad too, but I'm not sure why they're so much more expensive than the updated white ones.

I thought it was a bigger deal, but now that I've been using one, it's really a non-issue to me. I've yet to use a laptop that had a bright enough display to deal with full sun anyway (as stated above). However, I understand the gripe from professionals, and I'd prefer matte too. But hey, I also prefer the older 4:3 display ratio instead of this widescreen crap. Heck, I'd prefer a square display. I guess some god of all laptop design decided that all people do on laptops is watch movies, thus the widescreen and glossy display. :dunno:

Oh, and I wouldn't pay the extra for the unibody macs, especially since I've seen the previous style, in 2ghz version, going for less than $800 these days. I think (other than the wrist slashing palmrest) they're great.

Well... considering how Apple just updated the white MacBook (like a week ago), the differences are now fewer. Both have the same processor and graphics (graphics was the big difference, old = Intel GMA950 vs new = NVidia 9400) which kills most of the performance difference.
So, big differences now are the new case (which is nice to have IMO, but not a deal-killer), backlit keyboard on the upper-model, a 40 GB larger HD, and the multitouch trackpad.
Trackpad is the coolest and most "worth-it" feature for me. The white MB has a FireWire port which the new Unibody MB's do not (gotta get a Pro now!) so if you have an old-skool video cam with FW, it won't work with an AluMB.
Between the $999 white and $1299 Alu, I'd have a tough decision to make. The $1599 Alu gives you the big HD, backlit keyboard, faster processor, etc. and therefore is worth the extra cost.

I agree with the comments below and was just opening this up for discussion. How can Apple legally control devices they sell and no longer 'own'? Voiding warranties, not supporting, and the like i can understand, but going after you legally for hacking your own device? It's like being sued for putting a different video card or putting Linux as your OS on your home PC.
