BTCC/Top Geeeeer Video, Worth a watch

Andy pointed this out to me and I thought I'd share:

Season 12 Episode 7 spent a good deal of their first half talking about BTCC history. 0:00 to

Some things to note:

3:00 - Some great driving on old bias ply tires

4:24 - A sweet blue Sierra (naturally). 5:15 makes me sick.

6:20 - A must see two wheel "I wish my balls were that big" move.

When I crewed for Grand Am, I got bitter because it was a bunch of rich, newby drivers banging up hundred-thousand dollar machines. BTCC, conversely, is a bunch of rich, pro drivers, banking up hundred-thousand dollar machines. For some reason that little distinction makes all the difference to my interest level!

i've always been a fan of touring car series, especially the BTCC, STCC and DTM. to me, the best action was from the rwd sierra and M3 dominated times. it just seemed like the competition was interesting, innovative and close. i loved seeing cars like the alfa 155V6, volvo estate wagons, the audi quattros and renault meganes. everyday cars transformed into believable beasts.

i agree with your sentiment about grand am as well. racers who suck at driving are making contact because they don't have the skill to drive around someone, which is lame. when skilled guys are making contact, its because they can't go any faster and they're at the very edge*.

*except spec miatas, which all have magnets in their bumpers and can't not make contact, which usually ends up in highly entertaining pileups

Here I am sweetie.

Glad you enjoyed the last Top Gear, pete.

BTCC is definitely the most fun racing serious, mostly because the drivers are insane and race mostly in the wet.
