My mom was definitely leading up to the source of the problem that Jay showed us when he came over.
It involved logging onto the router and changing the wireless network key, which only my brother at Tech knew the password for.

Also, just curious if you've gotten new wireless phones in the house? cause occassionally if the phone is running the same frequency the inet sux0rz and wont stay connected.

if you ever "forget the router password" again, you can reset the router to factory default settings. Usually its by holding down the reset button for 20 seconds or so (but it depends on the router)
This is still an issue on the same laptop. Yesterday when I woke up, I get an excellent and that maintained for about an hour or so. I tried all day yesterday signal to get it back on and it wouldn't budge.
I was able to get the signal though by changing from the Microsoft Windows manager of Wi-Fi to Intel® PROSet/Wireless.
So far it seems to only work in the morning. Could a signal be lost because it gets to warm? My cousin here has a Linksys G 2.4 Mhz Router. The signal is very good right now.

Change the wireless channel it's broadcasting on.

there's 3 non-overlapping channels for your access point (this is the correct name for your hardware not a "router"), like everyone's been saying the stock channel is the middle of the 3 so put the channel to the uppermost or lower most channel (1 or 13 IIRC). Also make sure that your laptop is connected to the correct wireless network, not your neighbors. Also in the router's setup GUI there should be something along the lines of "WAN connection" try releasing the DHCP, then renewing the DHCP lease. If all that doesnt work then take some cat5 and plug into the AP directly, or reflash the AP with some DD-WRT. Also someone mentioned, update your wireless NIC drivers (direct plug into the access point for internet) and see if that helps. If all that doesnt work, take the laptop and router to a remote area and practice your aim with your favorite firearm

FWIW, I used a network sniffer and out of the 16 I can pick up at my house, 10 were on 1 or 11. Everyone follows the same advice so most people set them there. I set mine at a channel no one was using and had a much improved reception.

When my laptop seems to get hot, it loses its ability to find a wireless network. I can only seem a wireless network after just turning it on after being off for several hours or so. Nothing I do once it is on works. I can only see the networks on initial startup.

those symptoms really dont sound like just channel issues.
There is a bug in the Intel/Proset drivers that causes a pretty massive memory leak, so try updating to the new drivers/software first. Thats probably not it either, but if your computer doesnt have much ram it could be.
It really just sounds like the hardware is borked to me. It must be a Dell 
try sucking dust out of the CPU exhaust port using a vacuum attachment and see if that helps with the heat. if the wireless card is mini-pci then make sure its seated well
