He's not president yet. I was disappointed that Bush was elected president at first, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I was even with him on Sept 11. It was when he decided to invade Iraq that he first lost me. Evan, you seem to feel the same way about Obama. Hopefully, he won't disappoint.

Ive said many times stupid things that Bush has done (and lately McCain) but just because I dont jump on your bandwagon of baseless attacks doesnt mean Im not critical.
I have yet to hear anything critical of The MessiahÔäó from you Mr. Black Kettle.

The fact that you call it Bush Derrangment Syndrome and Obama The MessiahÔäó. You only have cute names for people who don't agree with you and appear to have different height bars for different groups is what makes you partisan
I don't agree with progressive tax or keeping Social Security on life support. OMG... I disagreed!

I'm giving him a chance too. But if he doesn't get the market turned around by tomorrow, then forget it. So far I'm not impressed.

No, the comments were meant to spark some discussion. It just seems like watching TV, people are so moved by him becoming president-elect. But I just hope he works with both parties to make things better for not only the lower class but the middle class as well. He has made a lot of promises that I hope he keeps, although I couldn't tell you specifically what they are.
JackoliciousLegs Wrote:What are you talking about? Are you saying that marches mean nothing? That Obama won't do anything??
They mean a lot. That is why the March For Life continues in DC on 22 January every year. The day that Roe vs. Wade was ruled. I hope he does something. The House and the Senate are both democrat majority.
JackoliciousLegs Wrote:(tired of Bush) comment
I have grown tired of Bush too, but he is our President and there is nothing we can do about it. I just don't want any democrats or people that voted for Obama to complain for the next four years, because this is their guy, and that is who they chose. Although blaming Bush for the last eight years always seems to be the failsafe. But what about the 8 years before Bush even got there.
I want to see what BO does about the deficit.

No. People are motivated by the need/desire for them to better themselves, not because somebody was able to accomplish something. If a person is inspired by the accomplishments of another, it will be short-lived unless they have a personal stake and are willing to make sacrifices to accomplish it. Regardless of what race or walk of life you come from, in our world you can accomplish almost anything if you are willing to work for it.

I think for some people it will inspire them because they can see what is possible and it might be greater than what they thought possible. I'm sure we've all had an experience in our life when someone did something big and we thought, "Hey, I could do that too." It's not that we were lazy and uninspired before, it's just that you didn't know what you were capable of until you saw an example.
I think Obama getting elected will help some people change their attitudes about their lots in life. Especially for Black America. No one can say, "The Man is holding me down," when The Man is a black dude.
He won't cure poverty or 'pay your gas bill' but don't underestimate how big his victory is for people in this country and around the world. A lot of us take the American Dream for granted because maybe we've always had it there in front of us but for those for whom it has always been a fairy tale Obama's election might be the kick in the pants they need.

I don't like to focus on the race issue, but if Obama is what it takes to get a generation of "disenfranchised" young people off their asses, then great. That alone could "fix" our economy. I also hope it goes a long way towards repairing racial problems we still have. Bigots on both sides could loose all their steam and media attention and just go away.
In that same vein, I REALLY hope he doesn't get assassinated. If some crazy KKK guy gets his way, we'll end up way worse off than before.
