Need a car for business/commuting
#1
OK I have been without a decent driver for about 2 years now. Last was a 740i (loved it should have kept it). I have been driving a 99 Miata and a 07 Lincoln MKZ, but my wife ends up taking the Lincoln on me.

I want something sporty but tame. I am looking at a 99 Volvo S80 T6 this afternoon. I have looked a vew Cadillac CTS, DTS but they are a bit too big for me. I looked at a Lincoln LS, but it had a sketchy past. I don't know much about the Audis hence I haven't looked. I laso considered a VW.

I do not want anything too flashy (read new and expensive) as it may send the wrong message to clients. My ego does not need a Porsche or MB. No SUVs. Wish I could find a good BMW 740 or 540 again.....

Any ideas?

Why can't you find one? Seems like there were plenty of 5ers out there when we were looking for our 3. And the E39 is cheap for what is a really excellent BMW. Of course, I'd recommend the 528 over the 540, but that's just me.

Acura TL
BMW 540i
I'm a bigger guy and felt cramped in a CTS, DTS was awesome.
Lexus GS300/400
Lincoln LS400
Mercury Marauder
Mercedes E-Class
Infinity Q45

I would avoid any VW / Audi product like the plague based on my ownership experience, although Phaetons / A8s are cheap now.

This link probably won't work unless you have the developer add-in for Firefox.

300C would be a good choice too.

Mercury Marauder - I don't think it has too much tude - it's just a tasteful Crown Vic that's luxed out.

If you are buying outright, I can take you to the dealers auction. you just have to pay 1,000 over what you pay for the car to use my friends dealer licenses. PM if you are interested.

I actually like the M's alot. I suggested one to lee when he was car shopping, and he went for the acura.

If the CTS is too big, though, I think an M probably would be also. I also wouldn't bother with the V8 myself, the VQ35 is so sublime of an engine that it kind of eclipses the VH.

But I'd probably still pick a IS300. Fairly simple to work on, easy maintenance, good reliability, excellent styling (IMHO) and adequate performance. Fuel economy could be better, but in entry level luxury that's like the first thing you give up.
