I might have to wait on the 50D purchase
I've been really impressed with Nikon lately. The video function seems like a pretty innovative idea... I'm sure that will be encompassed in some of the next generation cameras.
What was the price point for the 50D body? Doesn't seem a whole lot better than the 30D body which I have been considering pretty heavily.

Or even less, I have been seeing them in the 550 range now. I bought my 30D back in the fall right after the 40D had come out. General consensus was the 40D did not really offer that much over the 30, but not sure how it is with the 50. Hope to pick up a 5D soon with the 5D MkII coming out :twisted:

Full frame would be nice, but I think it was a bit lacking for motorsport stuff at 3FPS continuous shooting (30D is 5 fps, 40D 6.5, 1D's are 10) and not sure how good the AF is on the 5D's.
Full frame would be great, but I have a couple APS-C only lenses.
either way, Id like to see what this RED DSLR is going to be. RED turned the pro video market on its head, and I think they could do the same with the still market. Of course if its in the 1D price segment then it is moot anyway...

Mostly newspaper stuff, portraits, still automotive work. Have a MkII here at school I use for sports.

Sounds like it's going to be more like a video camera that takes great stills. Unless my lenses bolt onto it, I can't say it appeals to me.

I've always said the glass is where it's at so I really can't see myself spending $2500+ on a body. I could change my mind in a few years but I think even a D300 is expensive. If I didn't have to change memory format, I'd already own a D90 'cause it's <$1k.

I think the 5D and D90 are two totally different markets... hence pears and kumquats. Canon wins the professional with 1080p and full frame, Nikon wins the prosumer with 720p <$1k. I don't think either is pulling one over on the other. Need a diagram or something?

Good work. Say they arent comparable, and then compare their prices.
Full frame being exclusively professional market is arguable at best. Thats like saying superior image quality is only for professionals. The 5D's price point straddles the line and many hobbyists use them.
