External HD case
#1
I have an extra 80GB laptop Hard drive laying around. If I wanted to use this as a primary drive in a desktop, is that possible? I know they make external cases for them, but I wasn't sure if that would make it a bootable HD?

A lot of mother boards will let you boot from a usb device. Check the BIOS screen. I would think it would be mega slow over usb.

IDK why you want to - HDs are super cheap, and that laptop drive is most likely 4800rpm.
