You guys are idiots. All the crap you picked out requires an infrastructure to support. The bikes and, to some extent, cars are serviceable but now we got hover crafts, doloreans and nuclear subs. If one thing broke on those things, not only would you not be able to fix it, you wouldn't even know it was broke until seconds before your death. K.I.S.S, mofos. K.I.S.S.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

nuke sub is designed to be self sufficient for months at a time, even years if necessary with a minimal crew.
food and water is unlimited at sea, unlimited power, I fail to see the issue. Military over-engineering means shit doesnt break.
The backup plan, which is probably more realistic is a nice big sailboat with a solar array and a bunch of guns.

Anything on land and any gas guzzler and you are fighting Mel Gibson for gas and water. Have fun with that!

water is unlimited at sea? do nuke subs treat their own or are you gonna homebrew something?

I'm pretty sure they make their own water and oxygen.

its easy to de-salinate water. you just need 2 jugs or if enough heat you can boil it and catch the steam. Although im pretty sure subs have that built-in anyway.
Hell, they can pull oxygen from seawater so they should be able to pull some salt out of it.

Most submarines have a distillation apparatus that can take in seawater and produce fresh water. The distillation plant heats the seawater to water vapor, which removes the salts, and then cools the water vapor into a collecting tank of fresh water. The distillation plant on some submarines can produce 10,000 to 40,000 gallons (38,000 - 150,000 liters) of fresh water per day.

No way is a nuke sub easy to operate. Any asshole off the street would promptly sink that shit at the bottom of the ocean in seconds flat. The sailboat with solar array + guns seems promising but only if I could find a deserted island as a home base.

I don't think the title of the thread was "what's easy to operate, close to your house, repairable by Johnny Depp, and satisfies Andy's urge to be green." I'm pretty sure it was "excuse to post pictures of badass transportation."
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

No. It's an apocalypse vehicle. Apocalypse means easy to repair without infrastructure which means I better be able to get the shit running without plutonium or magic or whatever. I don't even know how nuke theory works, let alone operating the shit.

In an apoc, I couldn't care less about green. I want results with minimal maintenance and if that meant some sort of generator that would result in the death of every ginger kid, I would flip that fucking switch on within the second.

Well, good luck with you boat and island.

If you want to be all practical about it, you may want to talk to a boat owner. They're not a walk in the park. And unless you're running around in a sunfish, you're not going to be running a sailboat by yourself, either.

'79 International Scout. Drove one straight up a tree once, sat it on the rear bumper and she kept running, sunk it in a pond, pulled it out, cranked it right back up, attempted to drive it across a dried up creek bed and rolled it, flipped it back over w/ a tractor and kept on going. Fucking bad ass. My cousin later put a Ford 460 in it and towed a 38' camper trailer with it for years.
