He said the only place he made it up was on braking, it didn't look like he had twice the traction/grip, to me, in the corners. Assuming a similar tire compound (which, I'm sure, they were different), wouldn't their cornering speeds be similar? I'm also guessing the bike could have been braking later and harder, but maybe the rider just didn't want to die? :lol: I think we can all agree it's a WHOLE lot easier to drive a car at 9/10ths on a country road type situation than it to drive a bike at 9/10ths. And locking up a front tire on a car is not QUITE as big of a deal as on a bike.

I honestly don't know how to compare bikes and cars in such a discussion, but I do know more tire doesn't mean more traction when comparing car to car. So yeah, a bike has a smaller contact patch, but there's more weight on that patch, so grip could be the same. :?: Bikes are still a mystery to me.

Cars usually have a lot more corner grip than bikes. If I were to do a car/bike, I probably wouldn't use a liter bike.. 'specially not a fakemeout dressup bike like the hypermotard. I'd use a the lightest, fastest 600 I could get my hands on, maybe even a 2 stroke 250. You figure that most bikes are going to out accelerate a car, the next step is to get a bike that carries higher corner speeds, and is less of a hassle to wrestle down under braking.

I don't mean to sound nitpicky, I haven't even gotten to watch the vid yet (!), but a hypermotard is a toy among toys. It doesn't do much of anything well, and it's got no real design intentions... and then you put it up against a street legal purpose built, that makes a lot of creature comfort sacrifices in the name of driving purity and going fast, and you're starting to compare apples to oranges.

I'd genuinely like to see what a no holds barred 600, like a new R6, would do in the "tard's" shoes.

Braking is a function of grip, both tires on the ground and the pads on the rotor. The car has more of everything. There was a TopGear test of an Ariel Atom against some bike and the Atom won because of the braking but it still had more traction in the corners too.

That hyper motard wasnt built to be a corner carver. at least not the way he was carving the corners with it. I'm with andrew... give me a show down with a 600, and we'll see. $73k will give you a lot of bike. a $4k locost wont give you 250whp like this car had. so dont bring that $4k locost to a fight with a $4k bike.

See, I dono, I never saw the sense in comparing stratospherically expensive cars to, comparatively, dirt cheap motorcycles. Ten grand these days will buy you "pretty much" the fastest production sportbike in the world... you could buy the darn thing with a part time job at B & N. That's part of the reason some people get them, after all - I'll never be able to afford a 6 figure car, so I'll get the same kicks on two wheels for a fraction of the cost.

I guess it's like crack...
