Jack, you had better have ordered two rebuild kits. :-p
And did you check on pistons?

yeah Jack, it'll help once you have all the pistons working!
and Chad, I'm not sure what's wrong with leaving the bleeder screw tight and pressing pistons in. I've never seen a service manual recommend doing it that way that I can remember, and from what I understand about how a master cyl is put together, I don't see what harm could come to it. With the master cyl piston(s) retracted (brake pedal up), the hole is uncovered that leads to the reservoir, so pressing on the brake piston should push fluid through that hole, not past any seals. And yeah, then you don't have to bleed your brakes, which can be a pain in the ass if you're short on time and/or just did it recently. Please tell me if I'm missing something, I've never heard of any damage done to a master cyl by doing it this way?

Advance can't order the pistons. They can order new calipers for 50 bones.

Maybe its just a Ford w/ ABS thing. I don't understand why everyone thinks bleeding brakes is so hard?? Just cracking the bleeder screw makes it 10x easier as well. -c

white_2kgt Wrote:...Maybe its just a Ford w/ ABS thing... that, I don't know. I do know some car's bleeding procedures become more complex as ABS gets in the way, and I don't know proper bleeding and pad replacement teqniques w/ ABS. Some don't seem to matter though, as on an E36 (all have ABS), I still think the manuals and people who work on them leave the bleed screw alone. However, some later ABS systems may have a problem with it? Would be good to know! ....and what happened to you Mike?! :?

Well the caliper has been leaking since VIR, I actually burnt the rubber inside it... Normally it just drains some fluid, I refill it, and I'm on my way. The past two days it has gotten much worse (drained about twice as fast) and overnight I guess it just got too low. Got in the car, touched the brakes and BAM to the floor. Luckily Chris has a 2nd (actually 3rd) car so i drove that in. That is my 3rd caliper to go kaput, but they were all old... I was going to be picking up a GSR brake setup sometime this week, they became a necessity today so I'm heading up for them after work.

oh, and a caliper rebuild kit includes just one rubber piece... i guess just for one piston. I guess we're only doing one caliper.
