I BELIEVE that did happen to someone in MM on track, not the crashed wheel into car but the loose wheel part.

holy crap!

on another note i was dumb enough to have used wrong lug nuts on my wheels for a very long time. The seating for the OEM lug nuts for hondas are ball seats. The seating for my aftermarket wheels are conical. For some reason i didn't think about it when i bought the wheels and used them. I've always had a little 'wiggle' when i drove with these wheels at higher speeds, but i thought it had to do with the lack of hub-centric rings (had the on previous aftermarket wheels) and thought nothing of the lug nuts. Recently it occured to check the lug nut seats and i did buy conical lug nuts for these wheels. Before i bought the new lug nuts i traveled across the country with these wheels and used them on-track with the ball-seat lug nuts without losing a wheel or coming close to it. I guess you can call me lucky, or for it to not to matter as much as properly torquing down your lug nuts.

I don't know. An SUV wheel and tire has got to be around 50 pounds x 70mph=9567 pounds of fuck-you-up-ness

It happened to one of our racers a few years ago at CMP. He didn't make it past turn one before the wheel came off.

...and I didn't think autoblog could have any cool points to begin with because it's an AOL property?

Sounds like something I would do, but I've pretty good about torquing, and re-torquing after sessions.

This is true. Although I do read Engadget even though its a iPhone/apple fanboi site. But really only because all the other gadget 'blogs' (fuck i hate that word) suck more.

it wasnt a 70mph impact, and it wasnt attached to a brick wall either so deflection should have played a part

but its probably a lot more than 50 pounds too, so maybe thats about right.

ive just seen way too many e36s with completely disintegrated cabin areas

seems about right to me....my grandparents were on vacataion and saw one of the wheels come off of a tour bus on the highway...crossed traffic and plowed some car, totally annihilated it. the driver lived but it was really bad. those dubs probably weigh about as much as a bus wheel!

poor E36, hellrot is such a good color
