Shit, for me to save 20% on a 500K property - so 100K. How many people can say they can comfortably set aside $1K / month in the DC area for savings (exclusive to your retirement savings)? It can be done, but it's pretty tough. That being said, it would take 8 years to do so...

I wish I had 100k to put down on my house My mortgage payment would be like $500 a month

Yes! We saved money by living in my parents' basement but we were making $66k combined then and rent payments were the same as our mortgage. Looking back, had rent not been as expensive as a mortgage we wouldn't have bought.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

I took my time today. Normally about 6 minutes, but I didn't feel like pushing it as the weather was beautiful... so 9. That even includes time to wipe the mud off the seat from my ride the other day.
Oh... in the car? 3 minutes, tops.
