Thats just stupid. You can NEVER have more than 1 round in the gun anyway so the auto does you NO good except to pussy up the recoil for you candy ass.
If this is strictly for HOME DEFENSE I'd personally go w/ a handgun. I bought a benelli 12ga for defense/skeet shooting. Unless you plan to hunker down in a closet and point the gun at the door the shotgun isn't going to do much good. It takes LOTS of practice to clear the house and make sure the BG has left the building. Currently the instructions are to run to baby's room, wife points shotgun (with 00 buck) at door I go downstairs w/ the .45 and tact light. If anyone other than me comes upstairs pull trigger.
Now, shooting skeet is LOADS of fun, but a skeet shotgun isn't much good for home protection, guns just to long w/ a full stock and long barrel. Get a cheap 9mm or something and skeet shotgun, you can have both for $600.

Are we shooting the same skeet?
Cuz, uh...the first & last two stations are, you know, doubles. Plus 5 stand & Wobble trap both require you to shoot twice.
For trap, yeah...you're right. But I definitely prefer my auto to my pump for doubles. Rather than "pussy up the recoil for my candy ass" it lets me keep a positive sight picture on the second bird without worrying about pumping.
Just, you know, a thought.

I wouldn't be opposed to owning two guns, especially if I pick up a cheaper Remington. It would give me some cash left over for a pistol. I just like the intimidation factor the pump has. I'd prefer to not have to shoot someone because I'm a pretty non-violent person, but if it came to me pulling the trigger I want to be on the winning team.

I've done mostly 5 stand and used an over/under but I see plenty of people who shoot pump. Now I'm sure it takes a bit more practice but I don't think it's a severe handycap.
Why do pumps even exist, honestly? I mean if they're really not that good for anything other than the sound, why do people buy them?

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

It's not really that much of a handicap, it's just a preference. And really, pumps exist for the same reason revolvers do...simplicity and reliability. The pump action is simple and pretty foolproof, and if you get a dud round, it's alot easier to expel and chamber a new one with a pump than an auto. You need to take your hand from the fire control group to eject a bad shell in an auto, you don't need to with a pump. A pump also allows you to load a shell from the breech in the middle of a magazine, something an auto won't allow you to do, being a consequence of the, uh...automatic loading.
Everything is a trade-off. The Benelli M3 is actually both pump & auto, depending on what you select...pretty sweet.

99% of the people that talk about 'shooting skeet' really mean trap. Not a lot of first timers really go out and shoot skeet right off the bat. Yea an auto makes the doubles a little easier but really, it's just one pump and after a little practice you can get it down pretty easily. At the trap/skeet range I went to in MD almost nobody had an auto, everyone was shooting pumps or over/unders.[/quote]
I didnt read shit but the last page. I can make a couple of recommendations. Go to the gun store, and throw a gun up on your shoulder, and see what feels best to you. Thats the best way to tell what barrel length is good for you.
Also - the best trap gun out there is a winchester super-x model 1.
And finally - pump vs. auto is really irrelevant. Once you're good with a pump, it's just as fast. I got a Browning BPS hunter last year, and I never had a problem getting two birds at once. If you do get an Auto, get one that has a switch that'll let you get the shell out of the chamber without loading another one...very handy.

personally, i dont give 2 shits if some junkie wants to take my tv. but if he comes upstairs where i put me and my family, he is a dead man.
CaptainHenreh Wrote:BLINGMW Wrote:I guess I don't get your stance. Buckshot is too dangerous if you have kids and neighbors, and birdshot isn't dangerous enough? I guess a shotgun is useless then for most situations?
Channing, what I was trying to get at, and did a terrible job of doing so, was this myth that buckshot for some reason doesn't go through walls, so a shotgun is the 'perfect' home defense weapon. People spew this line all the time and it's totally false. This is along the same lines as you "don't have to aim" a shotgun. You sure as hell do have to aim, and it sure as hell will go through a wall too. And the reason I said kids, is for what I said above. If a bad guy has your kid, you're not going to fire a shotgun, for fear of hitting your kid.
Obviously nothing is perfect and obviously all guns can kill you. The best solution would be a dog that shoot bees.
But barring that, a shotgun would be fine if you don't think a "hostage" situation is likely and if you think it is then a non-magnum handgun with *expanding* bullets.
Does my stance make sense now?
i think we can all agree that guns should not be used to install satellite tv in your house.
