Lifelock.com?

Has anyone thought about using a service like this? I was reading through some horror stories on my.is about stolen credit and I'd hate to have to go through all of that. Lifelock is the one where the owner of the company on the commercial is putting his social all over the place because he's that confident that he'll be preventing his identity from being stolen.

so... they do a few things you could do for free without too much trouble, and you're paying them for future protection if something does happen? I've had a fraudulent charge on my credit card before, but I don't think I'm in "need" of this service at $10/mo.

I dunno, $110 per year to have all of that stuff done for you (which I am honest enough to admit that I will forget to do or flat out won't do) plus have the help in case something does happen seems like a reasonable price.

Hell, I spend $10 per day just on lunch.

hey, I must admit, I can't very well fault you for being interested, if I were making double the $ and spending $10 on lunch every day, I'd probably feel the same way.

They use the oil-change analogy on the site, which helps make it clear who it's for, because I do my own oil changes too.

ive thought about it. the gubment isnt doing much to crack down on identity theft (but at least they are hunting down those evil mp3 downloaders)

from an insurance standpoint, i think $110 / year seems a little steep though.

Hey, maybe it'd be worth paying them $10, have them do it all, then cancel? :dunno:

it takes a couple minutes to call each of the three credit bureaus and have them place a hold on your record for 90 days. not to say you cant do anything with your credit, but nothing can be done until you talk to them and approve it.

If you're identity does get stolen I'm pretty sure $1m wouldn't go very far to help you out. I mean they can't buy you a better credit score and it's going to take weeks or months of legal fees to get all that crap removed from your report.

Part of what that 1 million includes is lawyers and legal advisors it sounds like. It couldn't hurt to have someone on your side who would be dedicated to helping you get your good name back, right?

It does... but I think you'd spend that pretty fast if you got really whored. $100 isn't that much for a year, I'm just not sure the risk/reward is worth it.

I know several people who had their identities stolen. IIRC they said they spent about $15-$20k getting everything restored.
edit: not sure if that is 100% restored, credit rating etc.

Hmm... alrighty then.

A better use of funds may be legal coverage via an employer if they offer it. I think it's cheaper.

Just signed up for this today, figured I'd give it a try since I'm multitasking too much stuff as it is nowadays to worry about some jerk stealing my inf0z. I found a promo code online that knocks off about $21 / year and gives you a month free. It's RD41 on the website if anyone wanted to give it a shot.

I did not read all the posts above, but if you are worried about someone doing ugly things with your credit there are cheaper methods to keep taps on it from almost all the banks.

Unless you are doing for all the extra bells and whistles (stop junk mail/automailers)

Having worked in the banking industry for a while I'm kind of curious to what you're referring to. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, I certainly am not aware of all products & services available, but offhand I'm not exactly sure I can tip off any thing worthwhile.

I am not arguing their worth, but I know every time i call my bank they ask if I want credit monitoring+ other stuff for like 10 bucks a month.

I was saying I've never heard of a bank offer that service. Regardless, $10/month is no cheaper the product being discussed here. Sometimes reading the thread you're posting in can be worthwhile Wink

I don't pay extra for crap, but I know my bank must pretty much constantly keep an eye on my account. Every time theres been a problem or something suspicious, they call me about it.
