why do i need to know amendment numbers? or the number of reps in congress? or... looking back at the test, really any of it?

Not knowing some of the basic amendments makes it a lot easier when they try to take them away or screw 'em up, and while I wouldn't have been able to pull the number of reps in congress out of thin air, when faced with the choice of 100 or 400whatever, not picking 400+ means you don't even understand the very basics of how our federal government is set up. :bootyshake:

You should have to pass a test such as this one before you are allowed to vote. If you don't know enough about the government to pass that test then you shouldn't have a say in who runs it.

i know them, i just don't know the numbers that correspond with them. not suer what knowing the numbers helps. i was a vegetable during ap government... literally. oh well.

i fully understand the difference between house of reps (based on size of state, right?), senate (2 each state)... and they both make up congress. i knew that, but i answered wrong for some odd reason... it was late, forgive me i think i was thinking congress = senate only.

100%. Some of you must suck at multiple choice tests. Sure, I had to make two guesses in there but it wasn't like I needed to phone a friend.

I thought most of you in MM were serious about your politics. Shouldn't you know who in this country declares war? Or since you all seem pretty into the upcoming election, shouldn't you know what parts of our constitution deal with voting? Or even when the constitution was originally written?

Obviously none of this shit matters on a day to day basis, Mike. But how can I take any of what some of you say about how this country should be run seriously if you don't know how it is being run now.

Right, it doesn't matter on a day to day basis. My life will NEVER rely on knowing this stuff. If I need to know something, I look it up. I'm much happier having silly information seeking skills rather than having memorized a ton of stuff.

You'll also note that Mikey, for the most part, stays out of political discussions on here It all matters very little to me.

I kind of take issue with the last question:

The answer here is "the budget is balanced", but that doesn't necessarily mean that the tax per person equals government spending per person. Well, I mean I guess it does. That's the *best* answer. But all the answers suck. What about foreign military sales? That's not an individual tax, but it could bring the government income, which would allow for additional balanced-budget spending beyond what the tax base would otherwise support. I guess the question as written is just more of a logic question than a civics question, kind of like saying:

"If the money in a person's wallet is equal to the amount of their bar tab, then:"
A: That person drinks too much
B: The alcohol consumption per person equals the monetary deduction per person
C: It's never C
D: We were hard up for a way to ask this question, and it's not clear what exactly we were trying to test.

and all the answers were like.... ? I mean, one was "right", but it was still unnecessarily odd IMHO. And I think C would have been "right" too.
