So I told myself I was going to take a break...
Dave Wrote:For the record, the problem in trucks and SUVs is not visibility, it is the assclown driving that doesn't give a shit. I drive a big f'in truck every day and have never had any problems merging in on people or scrubbed against something and not realized it/not expected it (the only things I've hit was a trashcan in the middle of a parking space I intentionally rammed and a traffic cone).

Large vehicles promote idiocy because people drive them like cars. They don't realize or care they have to take special care in driving the thing and it results in more incidents. A lot of people can drive them without incident but if the average person is pretty clueless and you stick them in a big ass SUV, they're gonna be just as clueless. Since we haven't yet developed a "not stupid" ray gun, I'd rather they be clueless in a sedan.

....and no matter how carefully you drive, I still can't see around you when backing out of a parking space, driving down the highway or trying to make a right turn when you're making a left next to me.

Sorry, I'm wasn't arguing against you. When I'm driving a car I'm super-cautious whenever I'm close to a bigger truck. All I'm saying is that they would pull their head out their ass, driving a Mack truck is no different from driving a sports car. And I recognize that people can't see past my truck, which is why I also tend to give better warning and drive more cautiously in my truck than I normally would in a smaller vehicle, so that the people behind me have more warning.
Sadly, it's a moot point b/c people aren't going to get any smarter.

I'm convinced we need a state in this union where only cars under 2500 lbs are allowed. It can be like a lightweight cup in Forza or GT where your vehicle has to be light enough to enter the state. Then we can all drive a Mini, MG, Miata, Lotus, Del Sol, 914, Smart, Atom or whatever hell else we want without the fear of a bumper decapitating us.

One of my neighbors has one. I bet it's a great city car but I just imagine driving one around 5000lb SUVs.

It's got more scoot... but I wouldn't say there's less risk.

I don't commute, in rush hour, on a motorcycle.

There's a reason why 95% of my riding is west of Leesburg. Smile

Fair enough, I hadn't thought of that. My last incident was commuting, after all, and so have the other "interactions" I've had with cagers.

Sign me up!!!

However, I'd recommend upping the limit to 3k to allow for some sedans and light duty trucks. We'd also have to have an allowance for the ownership of the larger vehicles or readily available rental of them for anybody who travels out of state frequently or has an actual need for them. And the the loopholes continue...

Of course, if you plant several good tracks in the state, we won't need to tow to the track and thus won't need a big truck. Have giant parking lots and a great inter-state public transport system for out-of-staters to get around and park their land yachts at the border. Hrm, this sounds like utopia!

Oh, I've got some money problems alright from the lady who hit me last summer (maxxed out their personal property liability and my diminished value claim is worthless at this point). Better yet, I googled her husband and he's been tied to some terrorism cases (they're Somalian).

could your insurance company cover the rest under your uninsured motorist section of your policy? It doesn't make sense to me for you to fork over any money if the accident isn't your fault (whether it is your insurance company or theirs paying the bills).

I didn't lose any money from the accident claim. I paid extra to have the Exige conversion done as I was expecting to collect the DV (that's where I've lost money). Also, if I tried to sell my car now, I'd probably take a $12K hit as the accident is loud and clear on Carfax (car had structural damage that had been repaired) - not to mention my loss of use for 5 months. After yesterday's incident, I'm really torn to sell the car, but I would take such a big hit on it that I'm kind of stuck now.

It pays to be poor.
