I am looking for a 70-78 Z car. If anyone spots one for a fair price please let me know.

No motor and rusted floor boards I am good with, however the rotten frame rails as it is a unibody equals no good.

I'd stick to getting a pre-73 one. I know a few people that have them, and tehy got bloated and emission restricted after that.

I have had at least one of each,, and they all have good points and bad points. If I can find one with a desent body I want eventualy to put either an ungraded 82 turbo or a sr20det. I know it is easier to get more hp from the sr20det, but at 2000lbs not like you need big numbers to make it fun.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of the S30-chassis cars. Bloated does not fairly describe any of the Zs until you get into the S130 and later chassis (Z31 oh god, and Z32). As the years progressed they did get heavier but the build quality improved and, most critically, the frame became much sturdier. Going with the later will also provide you with the larger, more desirable engine and it will still be lightweight and fun. If you're building it for an all-out racecar, an early one is a good starting block b/c you'll be reinforcing everything, but a later model S30 is perfect for a multi-use car.

I commend your thoughts on the SR and L28ET engine projections. I'd recommend you going for the SR, but that's because I'll have the turbo L28 in mine, so we could drive each others cars and see which we like more :-).
Some other good engine options are a 7M-GTE from a mk3 supra (easy power, stupid cheap if you get a BHG, fairly reliable, well-documented), carb'ed L28, or a 2JZ-GE from a supra or SC300 (stupid reliable, decent power, done a couple times but requires fabrication). While we're at it, you could also put in a Nissan RB-series engine too :-).
