VIR February

as much as i love the idea of getting new people to the track, vir february is typically not a good first event. it is far away and the weather usually sucks HUGE nuts.

i'd recommend talking the track up, throwing the invite out there, but not actually pushing for people to come out until a summit event where the weather is nice and they can come up just for a single day.

True but the first event I went to was Feb. I flagged and froze my nuts off but it was all it took to get me addicted. Getting drunk and hanging out with everyone in a cramped ass hotel room was fun too.

+1 (and that's not a slam against you Andy)

Think back to one of the first NASA events that MM ever worked, that freezing ass cold Feb event with the hotel room debacle, kaan sleeping in the tub, me sleeping on a dresser, etc. Any track day is going to be fun for those that are bit by the bug, but for those that are on the fence this might not be the best event for their first taste.

Lets just say we are all a little less than hospitable at the first track event. Its a good time, but everyone has frozen there asses off all day..well except me in T&S, and nobody ever comes in there to meet an MM wife so if they want to come, bring them to the VIR in March. I think its a much better event.

that was when i knew MM was hardcore and I never left after that.

for some reason i always managed to work some of the coldest events...they were still fun but yeah, n00bs may want some less frostbite.

not sure if Mike remember's my first time at the track, but i was with Mike in the T1 Bucket at Summit Main for a carguy's event --- i was freezing my arse off, but as soon i saw the cars on the track (even if they weren't race cars) i was hooked. I think i was pretty useless for the first half of the day.

i actually want to work more of the summit event this year - i miss working

Hoping to make it out to this event for some spectating and/or filling in on some karting... I hate that cold stuff though. Big Grin

Figured I'd mention that the March NASA event registration is now open if somebody wants to start a thread.

My guess is it'll be about 15...dress warm! It's gonna be cold as a muthafugga!

I can't decide if VIR Feb is my *favorite* event or my *least favorite* event. It's one or the other.

See, on one hand I don't have the amazon basin in my drawers. On the other hand, most of the time it's so cold I could hang keys on my nipples.

Well, this will be only the second Feb VIR I'll have been in the tech shed, and for your information NO I won't be in the heated tech shed 90% of the day because:

A: The heater don't work for shit
B: The heater can't heat when those damned doors are open &
C: Go-Ped.

Kaan almost died, and I love to tell the story:

Ok, so we're at Summit Point Main, and kaan is doing laps around the tech shed because he's bored. Trying to drag a little board on the way around, I guess.

So, I grab one of the little metal ramps that we use to get cars onto the scales. Kaan sees me with it, we make eye contact, and I put the ramp right in the middle of the tech shed and point. Kaan makes one more loop, goes up high (to where cobetto normally does all hands) and PUNCHES IT. You can hear the little 2 stroke "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" I mean he's giving it all it's got going downhill with a tailwind. Kaan hits the ramp, gets no shit like 2 feet of air...and then Kaan goes one way and the go-ped goes another. Kaan bellyflops onto the blacktop, and the goped loses its airbox cover and slides into the road, still running.

I'm laughing as I stumble over to Kaan to see if anything is broken, but it turns out the brain damage was a pre-existing condition.
