Ok, first round of test drives took place today.

TSX - I liked it. Sharp handling, decent power from a 4 banger. Jess absolutely *hated* it. It was very small inside compared to...

E46 330xi - Loved it. I'm assuming that I would like a 330i just as much or more. Jess loved it so much, I might have to get two.

G35 Sedan - Meh. Felt clunky compared to the first two. Good power, but noisy. Not interested.

So, out of that list, the E46 is on top. I'll be driving some more cars later this week (Legacy GT, IS300), and will report back.

Nice. Yeah I drove both the 330ci and 330i at the BMW Drive in Charlottesville. You just can't beat it. Performance ZHP package is nice too.

300c or Charger R/T..at least go drive one damn it....

Even a v6 model would get you past 200hp.

I was going to suggest the Acura 3.2TL, 04-05MY. I see that Jess did not like the TSX, they appear to be similar but I don't know how close. The TL is almost certainly more refined.

The TL was on the luxury side but still a fun car to drive. Good power, I remember mileage being in your range..at least while the wife was driving. Ours was auto with the auto-stick option (can't remember what they call it). In that selection it is essentially a clutchless sequential. Audio was excellent as well.

A quick search on autotrader found a few in the 18-21 range with about 50-75K.

Never. I'd start with a 300c and then 5 years from now be talking about what color I'm going to paint my free-candy van... I'll live those dreams through you, thanks very much

You should at least drive one before you pass judgement.

Have you given any thought to a Cadillac CTS? The CTS-V is a 4 or 5 grand out of your price range, but the non-V models can be had for mid-high teens.

Volvo S40 / S60 might be worth a look too, or the Saab 9-3 or 9-5. No need to discriminate against the Swedish Tongue I second Ryan's motion to look at a CTS(V) - sweet cars.
Why do people just post what they are thinking? Without thinking.

Drove an '05 Legacy GT today, and basically loved it. Unfortunately, the previous owner was a smoker, so that particular car is out, but I will be looking around for other examples...

Cloth vs. Leather doesn't matter a whole lot to me. Send me an email/PM with the options/price.

Yes.

I also drove an '08 WRX sedan, which was nice too. But, we've already got a WRX, so I think I want something different Smile

lots more legroom in a legacy - especially in the back seat. A lot nicer interior too, esp. in the limiteds

I'll be getting that info for you. It is leather, but they are checking on if they are heated or not and all the other options.
