yes, AT&T 3G. Its pretty slick, I can stream di.fm in the car and hook the phone up to the stereo.
rumor is that the next version of the iPhone will have a highspeed 3G data connection.
Yeah, 3G and GPS are the only things really missing from the iphone. I'll admit it. I wanted to wait for 3G, but I don't use the web on my phone that much besides checking email. It's still the best phone I've ever owned. It's so easy to use, it makes other phones seem SO obsolete... even if they have more features.

seriously though, how is the soft keyboard? im genuinely curious, i only played with the iphone for a few minutes so im wondering if it gets better when you get used to it.

i too have only played with it a few minutes. i liked it far more than any hard keyboard i've ever used.

The soft keyboard took some getting used to, but when you get it, you can fly. You just have to trust it. I tested myself online and type like 30+wpm on it.
I only want 3 things that this thing doesn't have. 3G, GPS, and hard controls for the ipod. I hate having to look at it to go to the next song. Other than that, the browser is exceptional. The phone features are exceptional. The movie viewing is exceptional. The map navigation is exceptional. It's just a great phone.
Oh, and this phone was $400. My last phone was a GSM worldphone that synced up with my computer as well... costed $350. It was great, but this is better.
I love my iPhone... the soft keyboard definitely takes some time to learn. It's easiest to start typing with your index fingers as opposed to thumbs, but I can do two-thumbed typing now no sweat. I think I'm actually faster than I was at T9 at this point.
It's kind of annoying with how many taps it can take to do some things, but the integration (both between apps on the phone, and phone + Mac) is phenomenal.

The only other thing I dislike about it is that people look at you like you're a complete prick when you whip it out. I actually avoid using it sometimes because I don't want the negative attention.
I'll vouch for the soft keyboard being something you get used to, also. I initially liked the hard one on my LG enV better, but once you get used to the iPhone, it's totally normal (though I do wish that the wide horizontal one was available with more functions). You're still gonna hit the wrong keys occasionally, but the word correction algorithm they use knows what you're trying to type 90% of the time. And it'll add words in that you use frequently, as well. It's great.
Just because I don't think I've jocked it on here before, it's by far the best phone I've ever used, and is by far the most intuitive user interface I've ever seen. Best $300 purchase ever.

"Only" want 3 things? My phone was $100 and it does the first two... it can't do the last 'cause it ain't an ipod but then again I don't even own an mp3 player so I guess I'm not missing that.

The iPhone hasn't been a massive hit amongst many of my friends over here, itÔÇÖs too big and a bit flash really. As ^^ said people think you are trying too hard to be cool with one, not that itÔÇÖs a terrible piece of kit. However Nokia's N95 with Satnav (that is very slow) HSDPA, 5MP camera is all the technical guys at work want and in reality a lesser spec'd Nokia/Samsung is always going to get my vote as it will be more compact and have a longer battery life. Staying in mobile contact without cables is pe4rsonally my highest priority with a mobile phone.
Just to keep everybody in the loop, and be back on track, the Warranty Return box came last night. If the service is as quick as the initial shipping turn around, I'll be pretty happy. The box will go out this evening or tomorrow.

Yes, there are other phones with some of the features that the iPhone is missing, but the features that it does have are pretty unique.

You're not the first person I've heard say that. I wish that Apple hadn't cut that deal with AT & T. I'd really love to have one of these, at least as an option.

If you want to spend a ton, and as far as I know (which isn't much) you can't unlock one for use on Verizon's network.

Fair enough... although I think there are different levels of computer usage. If the internet and email are your primary reasons for a computer, I can see that. I guess I'm just biased because I use computers for a lot more than just the internet.

You can unlock an iPhone for little to nothing for use on T-Mobile in the USA. AT&T and T-Mo use GSM technology in their phones - aka SIM cards. Verizon and Nextel/Sprint use CDMA, which is an older technology that is currently not as flexible, though the potential is there.
So you can unlock it on T-Mo but not Verizon... different chips in the phones, so GSM can't connect to a CDMA network and vice versa.

Just to clarify, I meant "spend a ton to buy an unlocked phone" - 'cause, yeah, I don't know the first thing about unlocking one... so I wouldn't be doing it
