AppleInsider is one of the first to post a series of photos of San FranciscoÔÇÖs Moscone Center as it gets jazzed up for Macworld. The tagline ÔÇÿThereÔÇÖs something in the airÔÇÖ has pretty much confirmed rumors of a lighter than air new subnotebook. With WiMax support? Or is it something to do with wireless purchases or iTunes? Or neither!
This is the first year I'll be attending MacWorld and then going to the Pownce release party. I'll let everyone know how my official entry into Silicon Valley TurboNerd-dom goes.

If it is a subnotebook, I'm buying one. If it's a 3G iPhone, I'm buying one. If it's both, I'm going with the subnotebook, will sell my cellphone, and get skype.

Apple conjecture is so much fun!
Uh hey, while I'm thinking about it, do any of you guys know if there's some way to get boot camp to default to the PC side? You know, without having to hold down option? Apple restocked their refurbs today, I noticed they've got some $500 Minis and $750 MacBooks I plan on recommending to some PC people.
*edit* nevermind, I just did a different search and found the startup disk preferences control panel will do it. Who would have guessed.

oh snap, it's the MacBook Air

Eh, forgive me for being obtuse but I don't really see the Macbook Air as anything to get excited about. Thinner than other thin notebooks, with longer battery life but no optical drive. Nice but nothing that would motivate me to part with my hard-earned Senor Franklins. Ultimately its just a laptop with incremental improvements over old laptops. The keyboard is cool and all but not a dealmaker for me.

heh, I won't be buying one either. It just looks nice. I am surprised/disappointed that they actually have an option for a regular ATA drive. I don't even know how they fit it in there.

Booo. 1800 bucks for a thin computer that sacrifices HD space and memory without an optical drive? Thumbs down!

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
Yeah, bit of a let-down... Stock prices agree.
<--- Paitently waiting for that 3G iPhone.

Stock prices reflect the day on wallstreet, not apple's keynote. Actually, it's a great option for a subnotebook. They generally start at $1500 and have similar (less) features. It's dimensions are the best in its class and so are the features. The hard drive is a 1.8" which would easily fit. The $1300 SSD option is actually the market cost of a 64GB SSD. I don't know how huge the market is for subnotebooks, but only time will tell. I think it'll cater to ladies and folks that just want something to take notes with. I'd just go with a macbook, but hey, that's me.
correct, at this time i cannot find a good reason to not go with the air instead of a macbook.
i was expecting something smaller and even more portable... somewhere between what we got and the iphone, but still jocking a real OS and keyboard. what could they pare it down to? 10"?

I wish it had been that too. I mean, they're already pretty thin, and this thing isn't effectively any smaller. 10" would be perfect. With the same resolution.
