Guess nobody noticed, anyway...
I'm in St Louis, MO now. Moved here about 3 weeks ago just started to get settled in. We are living in a 'Fixer-Upper' that my in laws bought 2 years ago. About a month before we headed out here the place was all but gutted. Every single room has had something done. Both bathrooms have been torn out, kitchen torn out and every room has had either new carpet or laminate put down. Everythings finished now except the upstairs bathroom and the kitchen counter tops. We have ALL new appliances, washer/dryer, dishwasher, range, microwave, fridge, etc. I've had to rewire almost the entire house (think old 2 wire aluminum wire, no ground). The place was built in the 50's and NEVER upgraded. It had old white metal kitchen cabinets, YUCK! Everythings been repainted, sometimes two or three times...Thanks Home Depot. Me and another guy have been doing most of the work. Hanging cabinets, laying floor, doing plumbing, pulling wire, hanging drywall, laying tile, etc, etc.
Ok, so the why. Well both Christina and I got the opportunity to transfer within our companies at pretty much the same time, and we closed on our house 6 weeks after it was on the market. Since pretty much everything fell into place, we just up and moved. We've been talking about it for a while and when the stars finally aligned, we jumped ship. So far it's been the best decision we ever made. Finally getting out of the rat race the DC area in has been great. There's places close buy to go 4-wheeling, fishing, hunting basically everything I grew up doing.
This is the house from the back, it's about 2400 sq feet not including the full basement on 1 acre lot that backs up to a National Forest, yea, we have deer in the back yard just about every morning.
That's a pretty good sized 2 car garage, not enough room up for a lift though, but I'll fix that soon enough...
This WAS a bathroom,
All that tile had to go!
This is from the kitchen down the hallway to a downstairs bedroom which is now my study. The tile has been removed and drywall put up.
This WAS an eat in kitchen this area is now counter tops and where the fridge sits.
This WAS the kitchen...
This is the dining room,
Door's gone, there's a large opening there now, drywalled. The floors are also laminate and the walls are repainted.
This was the upstairs bathroom, tile's gone, there's a 3pc shower/tub in there now (there was NO shower before, in either bathroom).
This is some unused attic space that you can access via a door in the upstairs bedroom, I'm converting it into a walk in closet. So far all I've had time to do is hang can lights and insulate it.
This is the basement, all the green's been painted white.
This is a downstairs rec room. My plan is to convert it into a 'man cave'/guest room and put another bathroom down stairs.
This is a few days after we arrived in town,
This is looking into the dining room.
This is the downstairs bathroom (it's mostly finished now).
This is the kitchen before the cabinets were hung.
This is after setting the cabinets.
And the other side. Oh and pantry was also built in the kitchen, it's no longer an 'eat in' kitchen.
This is the living room, there's now a plasma hanging over the fireplace.
Those pics are from about 2 weeks ago. I'll take some more in a few days and update.
Anyway, that's what's going on here.
