He's finally going down. I'm not a big fan of him to say the least, and I figured this would happen eventually. Because it's federal charges, I bet they have more than enough to convict him.

Wait. So he cheats in a game, and you guys are okay with him going to years in jail? Take away his record. Ban him from baseball.
Just cause the guy is a douche doesn't mean he deserves jail.

However, he perjured himself to a grand jury. That punishment should fit the normal sentencing guidelines which any good lawyer can drop to a huge fine.

i dunno if he deserves jail time, but because he's a douche means i want him to get jail time.

why are you asserting that I have to agree with legal system punishments? And just because some slimy lawyer can get a sentence reduced Im supposed to support that?
I dont, and yes, I think he should go to jail.

Dont forget that his illegal activity directly resulted in him defrauding his way into many many millions of dollars.

but at the end of the day, I dont really give a shit. The fact that congress held hearings about fucking baseball I find disgusting.

I agree with all of that. I don't think you have to support any legal decision. I was addressing the cries for him to go to jail. He hits a ball for a living. It just shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I don't necessarily think he defrauded anyone. The owners/organization knew what was going on and saw the big dollar signs that homers were generating. MLB was a willing partner.

His punishment should be persuant to his perjury charge. It's stupid and hypocritical to make an "example out of him".

Arent steroids/HGH a "controlled" substance? No different than abusing prescription drugs, IMO. I dont know if that means jail time, or community service to tell kids drugs are bad (mmm kay).

I havent watched baseball since the O's managers fucked up getting into the series in '97 and lost all interest when Cal retired so I dont give a shit either way.

agreed on both counts. If they throw bonds in jail for drug use, then they need to throw sosa, giambi, sheffield and whom ever else was tested positive.

I don't think that's what they're doing though. Jailtime is for perjury.

i agree, i dont follow baseball so I dont know all the ins and outs but I just read that MLB didnt outlaw steroids until 2002!!!!! dubya tee eff mate!
And I also think that if bonds gets an asterix, so do McGwire and all the other juice-heads.

I agree. Drug abuse + perjury hopefully means a couple months in jail and an assreaming of fines.

although some of the drugs they were taking may have been technically legal, I was into weight lifting while Androstendione was legal and it was pretty much the last steriod until it got banned in....2001 (?)
although andro was a very weak steroid relatively, and i have a feeling they were doing much harder cocktails

I blame Canseco for the introduction of steriods to MLB Wink but then again he cant get in trouble because he is the one that ran at that lip.

You know what I think is the panacea for all pro sports. Shorten the freaking season.

A shorter season leads to a few things:

Less revenues which according to the collective bargaining agreements would mean lower player salaries.

Lower salaries also reduces some of the incentive for illegal activities.

A shorter season would also mean less wear and tear on the athletes as well as a longer off season for rest and recuperation.

Lastly, the best reason for a short season would be that I gave a shit about pro sports.

162 baseball games? Really? That's fucking nuts. 82 Basketball games? The games mean less so the players care less which makes for boring games which makes me the fan care less.

This last reason is why I love college sports especially march madness.
