Guess I'm not "turboomni" anymore...not that I ever was.  I'll miss it, but I have too much going on, too much money everywhere, and too many cars. I'm going to finish up the Daytona before I graduate, get the van painted so I can sell it after I graduate, then I'm gonna buy a classic and once again resume work on the Challenger.

lol i almost lost my fingers to a beautiful (but busted inside the engine bay) challenger. "shit man, we've broke down... just stick your fingers in here and hold this open... moments later, a giant explosion inside the carb (or something like that... i don't understand carbs).

No. I have decided I want a late 50's car. A coupe or convertible. The coupes are just so much cheaper and easier to get. Notice that I don't want a restoration project...I want to spend 10-15k and get something I can just turn the key on. A driver, not a super showcar.

You can thank Craig Jackson for blowing that market apart. Everybody and their mother thinks their "classic" is $60K dollar car. F'n replica's of rare models bring home $100K. Classic cars and muscle cars have become rich boy toys.
OK, a little exaggerated but it pisses me off the regular guy has priced out of the market, even for "drivers" in many cases.
BTW..the cars in your pics are beautiful...I really do hope you find a good example at a reasonable price.

Thanks Steve. I just need to get my money together, get rid of some dept I have on stupid things, and find the right deal at the right time. A 57' Belvedere is the dream, but with the Tulsa time capsule car and "Christine" its impossible to find one at a decent price. A rusted out bomb that looks like a maple leaf in December in on ebay right now for like $3600...a convertible with no top, no interior, and rusted to pieces.
Give me like a year...and a deal like this.

I'll be working on the Challenger at some point soon too. Most of that will be tracking down the parts we have lost and just getting the project going again. I want to start over with the paint work, get rid of that yellow and go with a different color. I also need to track down a 440 v8 and a posi rear end :twisted:

I think you're out of your mind, but I'm not a really good one to talk either. There are very VERY few cars made before the 60s that I would ever consider, but some people have a taste for them.
I want to have 2dr "sporty" Mopar from every decade. That is really my plan. I have an 80s/90's Daytona, I have the 70's Challenger, and I'll have a 50's. I'll probably get some sort of 60's Chrysler convertible. I won't go older then the 50's. Unless I can find a 30's Plymouth coupe or a 40's Chrysler business coupe.
I'm passionate about automobiles. All automobiles, but most specifically Chryslers. I think being the smallest of the three major American auto marks has forced Chrysler to be unique and has presented it with challenges that have resulted in some great cars. Not the best ever, but great cars for their time that have become representatives of their respective eras. The K car, all be it humble, is a symbol of the 80's. It says something about America, who didn't know someone with a K-car growing up? Mopar muscle cars are some of the most valuable vehicles from the late 60's and 70's, and also some of the most ground breaking (Superbird anyone?). I wish I was 30 years older then I am, I wish I could have lived in those days when Stratus and Cirrus were just types of clouds, and Mitsubishi was still "those bastards that built the Zero". When the company I am passionate about was still groundbreaking and the lovable underdog of the American auto industry.
Rant aside, I hold out hope for the future, and I want to remember the past. The 50's were a time when America was car crazy. Architecture and grandeur were part of car making. Each year was something different and something new. I think some of the most glamorous cars that will ever be came form the late 50's and early 60's. Most of the rest feel like appliances.

but in all seriousness, i dont know jack about those american classics, but a guy at work has restored a couple of them including a blue belvedere that is pretty nice but looks like it weighs atleast 10k lbs. he might've sold it already, not sure, but if you ever get one, i'm sure he'd be a good resource for any questions you have.
