Mismatched struts

Alright. The rear right Koni is shot. It doesn't rebound after compression. I have a Mazdadrivers event this friday. I'm going to use my old kyb agx in the rear right. I keep the rears at full soft.

Is this a stupid proposition?

When I pulled the spindle, I noticed that the spring was loose at full droop. So I pulled the shock and compressed by hand. It didn't come back up and hissed out bubbles.

My vote would be to run it as-is and then send it back to Koni when the season is up - should be replaced under warranty. I wonder if something got bent when your balljoint broke...

So a blown shock is better than a functional shock? I can't run the Koni anyways cause the gland nut's threads are buggered. I emailed Lee and he said that my strut insert is one of the few that can't be rebuilt. I'm going to talk to him today about my warranty options. He said that even if it can't be warrantied, he can sell me one for half of MSRP. So better than nothing I guess.

The koni right now is fully compressed by what I assume is gravity. I doubt the thing is working.

AGX do not suck donkey balls when you're not running huge springs. RJ has too mucj Koni kool-aid in his brain. Mismatched shocks won't have much affect if you're running them at full soft to begin with.

I've used them and ridden in plenty of cars with them on softer springs and I think they suck ass. I dont like them and I'd rather poop on them.

If the shock isnt extending after being compressed, its probably not a good thing but it doesnt indicate the shock wont do any damping of the spring/chassis either but its probably not going to be as good as it was before.

i think if you've got time, you should put the agx in. jenn's civic had a bad strut, and the piston would literally bottom out like there was nothing inside the housing. i cant imagine it would be able to dampen a 800# corner bouncing on a spring.

I just talked to Lee at Koni and he asked me to run some tests. Hopefully, the Koni is still functional. Apparently, Konis don't need gas in the tube and after it's been degassed, Konis come back up very slowly as in days but they're still functional. We'll see.

Well, it looks like the shock was just degassed. Gotta wait for Lee to ship me another glandnut and I'll slap the Koni back in and will be all ready for mazda drivers.
