its not like they're gonna put those tetris pieces as patchwork to cover potholes. the new pavement wont slide right off and crumble. pavement is a composite material that contains a series of layers in itself. recycled materials, that is, mr. deputy greenthumb

...and I'm sure they scrubbed off all the materials on the old pavement to prevent the build up from allowing the two layers to meld. :roll:
Any place there were undulations there will be undulations in the new stuff by the end of next year. I'd put money on that if anyone is interested. :wink:

just curious, i know that when shenandoah first opened, it seemed like groups were on it instantly. how long had that pavement been sitting before it got its use? did the concrete karousel get put down well before the actual asphalt? the track seems fairly smooth

Laying new on top of old isn't bad. The ONLY reason to mill down old surface would be just to keep the thickness from getting to high, there's NO better surface to lay asphalt on than an already asphalted surface. Milling would help even things out but I'm sure there just isn't enough time. There NO reason to mill for better surface adhesion the heat of the new asphalt will be great enough to melt the old and that's all you need to prevent the new from 'sliding off' :roll: the old. Just think about how soft asphalt gets on a really hot summer day.
The only problem I see them having in the future is in the carousel where there is concrete, asphalt on concrete and asphalt on asphalt will settle at different rates.

I don't know Maeng. Shen is pretty bumpy though they did smooth out the bowl a little. Instead of bitching, lets drive it this weekend and bitch afterwards. Frankly, I'm going to be lost at T1 and T5 without the concrete/tire sealant.

If I remember correctly it was one of the first things they laid. I remember seeing all the pics on tha intraweb of people standing on it before the first bit of asphalt was put down elsewhere.
