wow, that's going to be really weird. summit pt without the ghetto...i guess the corner workers will still be the same, so that's good.
Fooking sweet. The complex without bumps? I can't even picture what that's going to be like
Two feet.
I hope they repaint the red/white and put out new brake markers. It would be really sweet if they could throw down some loot on at least repairing and painting the buckets too.

Paving over the existing concrete and crappy asphalt? I'm sure that will work out.
To RJ's post in that thread....
Summit Point's success is only a result of the track's location, not how they run it. Everyone that has been on Shenendoah does NOT love it. Why doesn't NASA or SCCA do it? Ever wonder why everyone says the decisions the management makes don't surprise them? It's because they make them in a vacuum and more often that not the people that run there end up paying the price.

well I never got off the waiting list, so I am going to run @ VIR this weekend with Synergy. Have fun @ Summit.

Be safe at that event, it's usually a crashfest...also enjoy the eye candy, there's some BIG money that rolls into that event, don't miss the banquet either, VERY NICE.
i don't see this paving job lasting a long time... it'll fal apart and be quickly replacing with bumps and concrete. yay endless cycle!

I dont know a damn thing about paving, and I suspect anyone talking shit about the new paving job does either.... maybe this will turn out great, maybe its a bad idea to go over the concrete, maybe it needs more time... who knows. Summit doesnt exactly have a stellar record with any of their track surfaces but we're all going to keep going there no matter what they do with the pavement. Go out and have fun.

Yeah, I've been going the last 4 years in a row and last year it poured down rain all Sunday and it was a mess. On the plus side, by the afternoon, almost everyone had either left, or crashed, so it was basically an open track. You where there one year weren't you? I think I remember your Mustang.

fact: when a surface hasn't cured and high forces are put on it (trucks, racecars), it gets fucked up. have you not ever noticed the giant valleys in some roadways? you know what that's from!? asphalt that isn't dry and high forces!

Not every just assumes they know what they're talking about. Ever wonder why other tracks take weeks or months to cure their pavement? Ever wonder why highways grind down the existing asphalt before they lay new stuff on top of it?
The reason Summit continually annoys people is they see the money being spent, just in the wrong way. How about upgrading the bathrooms? How about moving some walls a bit farther away? How about smoothing out the trap exits so people don't tear holes in their oil pans?

Is that the ONLY reason? I'd bet the guys putting the pavement down know a bit more than you or I...

People keep going to the track and summit main events almost always fill up... so where is the incentive to make it better? Vote with your dollars, if you dont like it then dont go. Summit's no country club but its 10x better than roebling road or nelson ledges.

I'm sure they do too, but you know what? $$$ They'll be the ones coming back to fix it after telling Bill Scott that it's a bad idea. You really think guys in the paving business are going to pass up the chance at easy money?

Or maybe they didnt want to pave in the winter and not have any downtime while the track is open?
Lots of conjecture...

track pavement's foundation is much thicker. the track itself wasn't cracking as far as i know, so i'm not sure they'd have to remove the old pavement in order to put a new layer on top. then again, this only increases the drop off from pavement to grass or curbing, so that may not be ideal. summit's surface was far from ideal, so this paving is probably gonna be a good thing, atleast for the time being. if it gets grooves or ripples in it in a few years down the road, i think there would be some serious safety issues that all groups would have which i'm sure would force them to either redo it or do it right.
