You pay for more 'convenience' than most people I know - nothing wrong with that.
IMO paying for someone to do something for you isn't paying for convienence. Getting a similar service for more money because you don't want to wait or go out of your way is. Semantics... maybe... I just have a problem for getting the same service for more money because I'm either impatient or uninformed.

The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Its absolutely convenience - call it semantics, but paying someone to clean your house, service or wash your car is a convenience.

I cant see a bank providing the same level of service as NFCU - thats the whole point of going that route. Now, if the best I could do with NFCU was 4-5% and the dealership was offering 0%, I'd reconsider and see what they've got to offer - but its all a shell game for them and if they dont make any $$ off of you financing they'll make it up elsewhere.

what service does NFCU offer that is better than regular banks? im honestly asking.
I think boa is fantastic, I dont even have to go to the teller to deposit checks anymore.
if nfcu does even more, Id like to know

That's why you negotiate a purchase price before even discussing financing. (Do that regardless of your lender Andrew.)
New thread because I'd like to see more discussion about it.

Without doing any research, generally CU's provide a little better interest rate on savings and loans, no ATM fees (I'm sure banks have caught on with this by now) and better service.
I think regular banks have closed up the differences in recent years, while Credit Unions are still a bit behind with things like online bill paying.

^ Posh!
NFCU does all the stuff Evan listed abuot BOA in the other thread.
When it comes to Ryan Jenkins, the story ends with me putting him in the wall.

The NFCU web interface is a little hokey... sounds like BOA has them beat with that.

NFCU looks to be a great bank, but its not open to most people, so its not really applicable.
i think the old man who used to live next to me had car insurance through them when he backed into my 90 miata.
i laugh at how awesome that experience was. adjuster came to my house when i wasnt there, looked at the car, appraised it for $700, then said when I called him "oh you will need $300 for a rental car too" i had to cover up the phone so he didnt hear me laughing.
all for a something a $150 junkyard fender would fix.
EDIT: n/m it was USAA. im leaving the story up because its funny

I think most credit unions are that way - I'm glad I got in as an employee back in HS.

NFCU ATM's are far less accessible than BOA or Wachovia in most areas.

easy killer, just hadnt seen any other than BoA. They were first to market and are now fully deployed. Makes sense that others are picking it up, its a feature that really does kick ass.
and i think its a software upgrade not a whole new machine? you would obviously know that more than i.

Point? I was just letting Evan know we've got them.
Besides, a little planning, for the most parts, makes that a mostly null point (yes, I know, there are unforseen circumstances, that's why I didn't say all the time).
*edit* To Evan: can't I bust your balls for fun at least once?

In this area? Yes... I can hit one on the way home from work and its no big deal. You really arent more than 10-15 minutes out of your way if you have to go to a NFCU ATM. Any time I travel though, I hardly ever see a NFCU branch or ATM.

does nfcu have 'vouchers' for using out of network ATMs?
my roomate in college said that with USAA they would pay the ATM charge (that the atm charges, not the bank) 5 or 6 times a month. i thought that was pretty cool and elminates the drawback for when you need money and there are none of your atms around.
my ING checking account is similar in that all Star, etrade and some other network ATMs are no-fee
Granted, we're much more established in areas where we've got more members. There's not much of a reason to have an NFCU ATM in Ohio or West Virginia... but you head towards any Naval installation and we're everywhere.
There are quite a few atm's you can use that we won't charge you a fee for (865,000), though the ATM's owners will (which is really common. USAA is the only company i know of that will reimburse ATM owner fees). When I need convenience cash, though, I don't care which card I'm holding or who owns the local atm, I just get the cash and forget about it.
*edit* For Evan's post, yeah, USAA is the only institution I know of that does that, and to my knowledge there is no limit on the vouchers any more.

thats what you get for trying to branch a thread that goes off topic!
I think so, too. She's like, bent on the Civic... I don't quite get it. Civics are... boring (and the new ones look like space ships).
