I think I'm just gonna go ahead and try to find a new set of tires for my Legacy. The RE92's just suck too many ways to justify having them on there, and I have yet another one with a slow leak.
I am looking for a tire that's going to be fairly high mileage, because I do a ton of interstate driving, and has a decent amount of grip. I think I am probably going to start getting into autocrossing at least, cause it's cool, and everyone else is doing it, and I decided I am going to keep this car for a while. Is there such a thing as a some-what sticky high mile tire out there? Preferrably all-season(ish). I will probably have a 4WD of some sort by the end of the year, so they don't have to be the MOST tready (a word?)

I like my Falken Ziex 512s. Good grip, stiff sidewall, reasonable treadwear, cheap as balls.

Wow, those are cheap as balls. Stock for my car is supposed to be 215/45 and I think my rims are 17 x7.5
So you think I could squeeze something slightly wider on there? I notice for a few bucks more those come in a 225/45

General UHP's. cheap, supposedly great all-arounder
i've never bought a General tire or heard a single good thing about them but these are apparently a good buy.

i understand, just throwing it out there. my Avon M550's were pretty good for the price, and with a good alignment would probably run to 30k miles. they don't have the stiffest sidewall though, but i don't think i ever got them to really get squeeling...lots of grip.
you're asking a tough assignment -- high milage and high grip tires are 2 different breeds.

Does it change anything if most of my mileage is done on an interstate? That's going to take a lot less of a beating on the tire than a lot of miles on city streets, right?

marginally i would think due to accel and braking. turning alot will do wear on them but honestly it's gonna be mostly your alignment. alot of toe means alot of wear.
