Yes ladies and gentlemen, I have a car. Finally.
As most of you know, I had been looking at MK3 Supra Turbo's for quite a while (see thread in FS/WTB). At times it was successful, at others a complete failure as I just couldn't find any that weren't A) complete POS's or B) out of my price range. The market seemed full of either barn finds or 10k dollar IJZ swapped heavily modded cars.
I had written up some criteria, mainly that I wanted an '89 up car with gray or light blue interior. I didn't want the burgundy interior or '86.5 - 88 cars, but truthfully for the current market, even that is narrowing it down quite a bit, enough to make it damn near impossible to find the car you want. I did find a red '89 with gray leather interior, but the car was sold out from under me the day before it was to be mine.
Well, DJ's friend Gus (some of you may of met him, he came to G-Force one time) owned a rediculously clean '88. DJ suggested I make him an offer, which I did, and to which he politely refused stating he would like to keep the car. About a week later, he changed his mind and said the car is for sale. First, however, just on a whim, I checked out a 280Z in C'ville that turned out to be more project car than DD'able car.
So yesterday DJ and I headed up to N.Va and picked up this car, and let me tell you, I couldn't be happier. Yes it doesn't fit my original criteria, but all that BS went right out the window when I saw it. This car is immaculate. The paint, the interior, even the wheels are mint. Gus was VERY anal about the car (you have no idea), so much so that he was disappointed that we arrived early to check out the car because he didn't have a chance to vacuum the interior....after he changed the sparkplugs for me. I didn't even pretend that I would be confident in driving a 300+hp, turbo RWD car home at night in N.Va traffic, so DJ (BIG thank you to him) came with and drove the car back.
Cruising down 211 with the targa top off staring at the stars while listening to the sounds of the turbo motor is not something I will ever forget.
The car came with stock parts, an entire folder of receipts from the first owners (a couple from Va Beach), the original window sticker, owner's manual and sales material, the original dealership business card, and the Toyota factory service manual! I am the 3rd owner.
Needless to say I'm very ecstatic, proud, and scared shitless of the car. Here's the details:
1988 Toyota Supra Turbo 5-speed Targa, Charcoal Gray Metallic, about 132k on the clock. Factory TEMS adjustable sport suspension.
HKS 1.2mm Metal Head Gasket w/ ARP head studs
50-trim upgraded stock CT-26 single turbo
3" BIC downpipe, cat, custom 3" catback w/ Magnaflow straight through muffler (uhh....its loud.)
MBC @ ~ 11 psi
Lower IC hardpipes
K&N FIPK intake
Bosch BOV
Spec Stage 2 clutch
Brembo Rotors, Metal Master pads, SS lines
Yokohama AVS ES100's on stock sawblades
And now, the car. Sorry for the crappy quality and bug kills on the front, quality photos coming soon
