This was my logic, my camera is a no-optical-zoom 3.2MP point'n'shoot. It's our "travel camera" so that we can take pictures and not have to worry about about losing/breaking/destroying our "nice" camera. That plan kind of fell down on my trip out here, because there was a ton of shit to take pictures of. But I wasn't really looking for feedback, just trying to share the pretty pictures of the blowed-up mountain. When I took pictures @ FoW, I had a much nicer camera, and I think they turned out super, I'm sure the same would have been true here, but I was hardware limited.

I'm aware of that. He said he was going to get a DSLR 'just before his vacation' to take nice pics. It takes time to get familiar w/ how a new camera shoots. I have been pretty impressed w/ the pictures from the little point and shoots in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing.

I guess some people just suck at cameras more than others

well Rex, I enjoyed them. They're still better than the pics I'm famous for, and in my opinion they're pretty quality. I especially like the last one, great contrast there.
Personally, I don't get all worked up if I an't see a bug crawling out of the woods 20 feet away, but some people need the best and are willing to pay for it.

I think any picture is better than none. the 3rd is super cool with the coulds at the peak, but the flower actually spoils it a bit.

Do yourself a favor and get something with at least some optical zoom. I think the Canon SD are very nice pocket cameras for the money.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth

Like I said, I almost bought a new one before I left but figured at the last minute but decided not to. I'm going to buy a nice camera AND learn to use it eventually, but right now I have more important things to buy. Evan Wrote:the 3rd is super cool with the coulds at the peak, but the flower actually spoils it a bit.I was going for the life & death duality of the scene, because it really defines the whole area. Signs of previous life are all around, but everything is dead and grey...until you look close, and you see life springing up to take back what the mountain had destroyed. Take this for example: ![]() Everything that was shielded from the blast in that little valley is bright and green (relatively speaking) but the tops of the opposite ridge, where the blast wasn't sheilded, is totally destroyed, it all looks like the third picture I posted. Because of this destruction, I was really struck by the foxglove because it was a pretty flower in a very un-pretty place, It's too bad I'm a mongoloid jackass without a 3000 dollar camera and a 10000 dollar lens or I maybe could have brought a little more meaning to the scene. Anyway, for you Evan: ![]() And maybe "huge tree that was chucked from the valley below to come to rest 5 miles away" is better than "pretty flower":
