I would think NASA would be happy to spend the 100 bucks in hotel fees if it got more new guys to the track cause this could eliminate one of the hurdles that could possibly keep broke students from coming to the track.
I haven't read through this whole thread, so I apologize if I have some facts wrong. From what I've read though this program is getting new MM members paired up with existing members to shadow them for the event. Not all of the members that are going to be there are actually working the event, they may be driving, they may be racing, they may be instructing. Why should NASA pay for a hotel room for someone who's not working for them? Instructors, racers, or HPDE students aren't NASA workers, so why should NASA provide a room that "shadows" of these people can stay in. It's different if they're staying in a room that workers are already occupying, that happens all the time now. My standing suggestion for that goes though, I don't care who's older or who has seniority, workers get the beds, non workers can take the floor/tub/dresser.

Had you read the thread, it was in reference to Rex/Julie/Jeff giving their rooms up eventhough they're working. I figure that since they're working, they should have a room even if they're not going to stay there.

As I said I didn't read the whole thing, so I may have not understood the whole thing. Now that I have your clarification. . . . my point still stands. Rex/Julie/Jeff aren't going to use the room, therefore why should NASA get a room? Based on the registration I see at the top here (again I haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if they've posted they'll take one and just not registered for it), none of the three are going to have a "shadow", so the shadows couldn't possibly take the room that Rex/Julie/Jeff aren't using. The NASA rooms are for NASA staff, if the staff wants to stay in the room and allow others to stay in there with them that's their decision, but if the staff isn't going to use the room at all why pay for it?

Why should NASA pay for a room for someone thats not going to stay there?

1)It's part of the benefits of being a worker.
2)Helps new people get involved which benefits both the club with participation and assuredly will get NASA for HPDE'ers. Win win for both for a 50/night hotel room.

A couple of years ago, it was MM's SOP to pile into worker rooms to save a little of dough during track weekends. Homeroticism and bonding ensued. What's not to like?

I think I got most of the bugs worked out but I'm not getting the shocks back that I need to run the correct spring rates up front that match the ones out back. So while I _could_ bring the car and run it, it's not going to be fun to drive and I don't see the point of bringing a car I know will have driving problems. Plus this will free up the next two weeks to work on other stuff and I hope I can make the August event.

The point is that they've said they don't need that room, so NASA therefore has their worker taken care of. These shadows aren't workers. Now if Rex/Julie/Travis wanted to keep their room and offer up the floor space for MM Shadows to sleep there, that'd be fine. The other option would be for them to lie to Laura and tell them they still need the room, then not sleep in it and allow the Shadows to sleep there. Of course this becomes a moral dilema, and if Laura was to find out their integrity would be called into question.

Also, NASA doesn't provide rooms for HPDErs.

There's very limited crew list space - I belive HPDE drivers get 1, and Racers get 2 crew each.

You'll need to contact people that are signed up and ask if they have room for a "crew" member.

Close, racers ger 3 crew, HPDE gets 1 crew.
everybody pays at the gate and refunds are given during the day Sat. based on a list I provide to the track staff of all registered participants. The entrant can take crew to the refund station or leave the crew name. make sure you pay attention to the time because once they close...no more refunds, no exceptions.

What is the cut off time for refunds?

If you arent in the paddock until 12:30-1pm... that probably doensnt leave very much time at all to get in touch with someone to get on their crew list if its not sorted in advance.
