See video above or map above minus chicane and pit straight, using the right hand cutoff to turn 3. Same config NASA used last time.

Jon

booooo, Pit Straight for the win!!!
The cutoff is rough.
Are you on crack?
Big concrete wall at the apex and trackout = the suck

I'll take the cut through any day.

getfast Wrote:We discussed it but decided to omit the pit straight because it makes grid so much more calm and quiet for workers/instructors/drivers.

Also because we are expecting a bunch of spectators on Saturday and didn't want a lot of non-registered foot traffic so close to cars at speed.

I've never driven the pit straight config but it does look fun...

Jon

Yea, I understand. I think CarGuys is the only group that runs the wall.

Have you ever driven the pit straight? It's SOOOO much fun, 4 wheel drift to the wall and you know you got it down just right! If you don't like concrete don't goto Watkins Glen.

Turn 1 after the pit straight kicks a lot of ass too... I like both configurations really - the concrete wall doesnt bother me. Last year we tried to get carguys to switch it up so we could do some laptime comparison from earlier in the year but they wouldnt change it... "we paid for the whole track!"

Well, usually I have no problem driving the car wherever I feel like it, regardless of the paved direction of the track

I've driven both configurations and driven the pit straight 3 weekends and every weekend it has sucked. Evan comes within an inch or two of the concrete walls on track out. I've only had 1 day in the dry though so maybe that plays a part in it. When it rains, there's a huge pond at track out.

Chad,

Have you driven Shen within the last 12 months? The cones were replaced with a concrete wall.

I was talking about the cut through, the pit wall has always been concrete, it doesn't bother me, if I hit it, I hit it. RJ was bitching that he couldn't run the cut through, which is usually closed with cones.

I'm hereby unregistering. If things change (someone takes the blame and gets me some f'ing parts installed), that'll change, but I'm not paying for overnight parts and the same pressing I just paid for.

Uh... instructors can't unregister for car related issues, especially not 4 days before the event.

Rent/borrow/steal something else to drive? Or find another red hat wearer to take your spot? Please?
