good to hear and your first inclination was correct...timing. Just not base timing.

we used to live in millersville...where are you going to dyno?

what is your tuning process like? Do you have to erase the chip or can you just change certain parameters? I'm curious, my 85 (chip) would have required complete erasure and reprogram for each change while later models allowed individual changes.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...

millersville, pretty close! I'll probably hit up JPC, I know a few people that work there. If that doesn't work out I'll go back up to anderson performance (north baltimore).

You want to know the tuning process or how I upload a new tune? I have a chip that plugs into the EEC and a chip 'burner' that plugs into the computer via USB. When I want to 'upload' a new tune I pull the chip out of the EEC and put it on the 'burner' and click the burn button, it takes about 10-15 seconds to upload the new tune then I stick the chip back in the car. I have no idea what it is doing to the chip, my guess is it is just flashing a new program over the EPROM.

That's what I was looking for. I was just curious. A friend of mine does mail order tune (for better or worse) and some chips need to be erased with a seperate piece of equipment, some can be reflashed like yours, and some you need to do the entire PCM.

Well, finally took the car out Friday, Speedo didn't work and it ran like shit, had no power. I was using the trans harness from my old car (only harness left from the old car) and low and behold, ford changed the pinouts on that one too, AHHH. So I figured out where they moved the speedo pins to and switched them in the trans harness took it back out and the speedo works (reads a little high though...) but for some reason it is running PIG rich. Either I'm still missing a cylinder (don't think so b/c I have no missfire codes) or the O2's are bad from all the oil that went though the exhaust while the car was upside down. Going to pickup some new ones from advance today and see if that helps. Most of the power is back but it still feels a little sluggish, probably b/c it is so rich.

Oh and I drove it into work this AM, my eyes are still burning...lol

Yea, I guess they had that factored into the 02's failure mode Smile. I still smell like gas, hahaha

Finally got around to checking A/F turns out the engine is running LEAN! Like 18:1 LEAN :OMG:! (why did it smell like GAS!, more on that later) So I picked up some new 02's and got them installed and sending a signal to the EEC (broke the speedo in the process, grrr) and I finally got my data logger working. Both 02's are reporting a signal just the BANK2 (drivers side) goes to 1.666 and holds (way lean). BANK1 was normal (.7ish). So I put the wideband in the passenger side and it was a normal A/F at idle 15-14.7ish. Perfect. So only one side was so lean. WTF!?! mate? Now I know it isn't the tune (in this tune I haven't messed with individual cylinder timing/injector dwell, only the base). I pulled out the SnapOn Vantage Scope and checked all the Injectors and COPs to make sure they were firing, yep. So then I pulled the COPs and ohmed them, perfect .53, then I pulled the plugs. All VERY white (lean). This was about 3:30 Friday so I decided to call it quits and give up getting it ready for the track. I went inside sat down and lamented about my failure, then I got the bright idea that maybe my PCV valve was leaking letting un-metered air into the drivers side so I just had to go back out and check. Nope, not leaking. While I was poking around I noticed that I had used an old vacuum line to hookup the A/C and Fuel Pressure regulator. I had the one I use to use laying right there so I ripped that one off and put on the old one. Fired the car up and sure enough, A/F at idle was a sold 15-14.7, DAMMIT! That's all it was! MotherFuck! So I looked at the clock, it was 4pm.

Trailer was packed full of spare body parts and crap that I didn't want in the garage. I knew it'd be a good hour cleaning the trailer out, another hour packing the car/tools up and another hr in the house before I could hit the road for SP. The speed bug got me and I said fuck it and started cleaning out the trailer. Ended up pulling into Summit Pt around 9:30 and unloading the car in the PITCH DARK (put some damn lights up please!) and dropping the trailer.

Saturday AM I took the car out in the first instructor session with ANDY! in the passenger seat watching the A/F. Sure enough we hit WOT and he yelled out 12.5! Great! Lets have some fun! After another lap or two I started smelling raw fuel again, "Hey, whats the A/F now?!" 12.5, he yelled, then I said why the fuck does it smell like gas! We came in shortly after, ANDY!'s eyes appeared to be on fire from the gas fumes and were barely open (that might be the Asian in him though, not sure). Then mike pulled in and told me I was spilling gas all over the track, ahh, that's why I thought the car was running so rich, haha. Made a few futile attempts to repair the leak but it was to no avail. I think it's leaking out around the filler neck/grommet in the tank. I have some spares so I'm just going to replace both and hope for the best.

I only hit that once under load, the rest of the time it was at idle, and I didn't let it get to hot so I doubt it hurt the pistons.

did you hear any pinging or any noise that would indicate a lean condition or did you only know by checking your WB sensor?

I only knew by checking the WB, and the only reason I did that is b/c I though it was running rich b/c of the gas smell, oh and it had no power

Most newer cars run really lean (15-16:1) at idle and low-load operation (i.e. highway cruising).

i've heard of that -- but good point. i figure if his plugs are white he's getting up there in lean-ness though
