Anyone else disappointed with Capirossi? I guessed him to win it this year (mainly because of the Ducati) but I haven't even seen him on camera for more than 2 seconds - and that was for his crash.
I may be changing my pick to Stoner if he keeps up this level of activity.
Hopper is making me extremely happy though. I'd love to see him finally win one.
Bummer that Ilmor only managed one race before pulling out.
When push comes to shove... Capirossi just cant ring the neck of his bike. At least not every race. Some days the light is on in his head and he is fast. But those days seem to growing farther appart.
I really like Stoner. I am happy that he is doing so well. It is obvious he can ride the power Ducati is putting down. But i think he needs to learn from Rossi.
RJ and I talked about this before the season started. He's a HRC fan... and if i recall right... he thought Rossi would have more issue adjusting to the bike... he would podium alot, but he wouldnt win the whole thing. So lets look at the first two races!
Rossi hasnt had the motor in any of the races. Yamaha is down on power... you can see it (especially in the first race) that the straights are killing him. But he is doing what he does best... He kills people under braking. The second race this year is we much calmer (looking that the tv on/off brake, throttle on/off) and smooth. He is quickly learning what this bike can do, how he can work it, and its honestly good under braking. If you put a bike that is good under braking with a rider thats good... he is fast. Thats what you are seeing.
If Rossi had the motor that Stoner has... I think he'd walk away from the field every race. If Stoner could work the brakes like Rossi... Stoner would be leading most of the races. If he could get "smoother" and have that skill with the brakes... he'd run away with it. Stoner seems to be hacking at the throttle on the bike too... much more than Rossi does.
I'm also one to think that the day Pedrosa signed with HRC he put the shadow over Nicky. Even after last year, Nicky winning and Pedrosa taking him out... he's riding with a purpose, he's riding to be the #1 rider for HRC. He looks like he has something to prove... and Nicky is still trying to learn this bike. I dont understand why he is taking so long... He's riden tons of bikes in his day (still alot of different bikes considering his age).
